Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The "X-Men" has the Professor. What is the nickname of the leader of "The Doom Patrol"?

Answer: The Chief

A great character with an affinity for chocolate.
2. Did I mention the "X-men"? Why would I put the two in the same question? Which of the following is NOT a similarity between "X-Men" and "The Doom Patrol"?

Answer: Both have a character named Celsius

Celsius is only in "The Doom Patrol". Oddly enough, both comics were released around the same time. As for the leaders, Professor Xavier is a far nicer person than the Chief turns out to be.
3. Why isn't Niles Caulder such a nice person?

Answer: He engineered the accidents that created the Doom Patrol.

Apparently, The Chief was testing a catastrophe curve theory of his, and now wanted to create some sort of global catastrophe. He does lose the rest of his body at the end of Morrison's run.
4. Other than being able to teleport to wherever, what is unique about Danny the Street?

Answer: he's a transvestite

All the stores are mainly on the inside, but done up all frilly on the outside.
5. What title did Flex Mentallo also go by?

Answer: Hero of the Beach

Ahh, Flex Mentallo and his Mystery Muscle Power. The character was inspired by those ads 'way back when' about the 90 lb. weakling. There's a great scene where, after becoming Flex, his girl is trying to get back in his good books and he totally dismisses her.
6. Speaking of Flex, what was he trying to do that caused him to become a street person?

Answer: turn the pentagon into a circle

He finally does succeed in briefly turning it into a circle.
7. Grant Morrison's run began with the four-parter named "Crawling from the Wreckage". What did Rachel Pollock call the beginning of her run?

Answer: Sliding In the Wreckage

Much like Grant's run, Rachel spent the first few issues rebuilding the team.
8. Part of the Grant Morrison run was under the Vertigo label.

Answer: False

Vertigo didn't begin until Rachel Pollock took over. Her first issue was part of the Vertigo lineup.
9. Who attacked Niles Caulder, in order to get his beard?

Answer: The Beardhunter

This was one of my favourite issues. The Beardhunter is asked by the Beard Growers Association to take out Niles because he has disgraced them and they feel he is not worthy of his beard.
10. How long did the negative being have to return to Larry's body?

Answer: 60 seconds

This one is to remind long time readers of the fact that every issue would make mention of the fact that it had to return to his body in 60 seconds or he'd die.
11. Who was the leader of the Brotherhood of Dada?

Answer: Mr. Nobody

While "!" was a part of the BoD, and Madame Rouge and the Brain were part of the Brotherhood of Evil, it was Mr. Nobody who led the BoD into the "Painting that Ate Paris".
12. Who is Mr. Nobody?

Answer: Mr. Morden

He was a character that appeared briefly with the Brotherhood of Evil, but was never mentioned or heard from again.
13. What is of interest about the cover of the "Yankee Doodle" issue?

Answer: It was a cover for a different comic that was never used.

It was originally supposed to be used for an issue of "Showcase #50", but never got used until Grant Morrison decided to use it for the Pentagon storyline. Instead they made "Showcase #50" into a comic version of "Dr. No".
14. Who is in charge of operating the train that goes into the area of Crazy Jane's psyche "the Underground"?

Answer: driver 8

In this issue we meet the many personalities of Crazy Jane.
15. What does Robotman NOT like to be called?

Answer: Robotman

After he returns in the second incarnation, he seems quite adamant that people should stop referring to him as Robotman, and call him by his real name, Cliff Steele.
