1. The Black Canary first appeared in August 1947 as a supporting character in a backup strip in "Flash Comics". Who was the "star" of that strip?

Answer: Johnny Thunder

Johnny Thunder was just a regular guy, a little bit of a goofball, no super powers except for the ability to summon a genie-like, magic thunderbolt to do his bidding. Black Canary I replaced Johnny in the backup strip and as a member of the original "Justice Society of America". She started out as a Robin Hood character, stealing from the crooks.
2. Dinah Drake Lance was the first woman to wear the costume and use the codename Black Canary, who was the second?

Answer: her daughter

When members of the original JSA began to be re-integrated into DC's continuity, an explanation as to why Black Canary looked the same as she did in the forties was needed. It turned out that the woman running around in the fishnet stockings and blonde wig was the daughter of the original, also named Dinah Lance.
