1. Jonno always tries to be the best friend he can, but for some reason he always messes things up. A good friend of his was due a surprise birthday trip to the circus and Jonno was put in charge of planning. Answer: Freaks

'Freaks' is a 1932 film directed by Tod Browning and was very controversial when it was first shown in the cinema. People strongly objected to Browning's use of conjoined twins, persons of intersex characteristics, dwarfs and microcephalics (rather crudely known as "pinheads") in the film and it ended up a major flop.

The film was banned in the United Kingdom for over thirty years but since the 1960s, 'Freaks' has garnered a moderate cult following. Watching the film with a modern perspective, the film doesn't seem anywhere near as controversial.

It is quite possible that Tod Browning produced a film that stood up to the prejudice of the disabled in a way that no film has done since.

2. Jonno's housemates were unfortunately let down by the DJ they had booked. So they asked Jonno to supply the tunes, allowing the party animals the chance to boogie in the "moonlight". Jonno thought it rather odd that his friends, who loved dance music, would want the 'Moonlight Sonata' blasted into the room. As beautiful as Beethoven's 'Moonlight Sonata' is, it isn't really a piece of music that can generate a thriving party atmosphere. The thought of a group of people bopping along to a rather melancholic piece of music such as the aforementioned sonata is interesting to say the least. Jonno truly managed to kill the party this time!

Classic FM broadcasted classical, Romantic, Baroque, contemporary and jazz music across the United Kingdom. BBC Radio 1, whilst it occasionally played music which mixes classical pieces with modern dance tracks, was known for playing popular music as well as rock and hip hop. Radio Disney targeted the early teenage market and, as expected, played a lot of music from Disney films such as 'High School Musical' (2006). Don't all rush to tune in at once now! KIIS-FM, which is supposedly pronounced as "Kiss", looks like a typo that the station can't afford to correct. KIIS-FM played Top 40 music and was based in Los Angeles, California.

3. During Jonno's years in halls of residence, he was the only person to own a TV. When asked if everybody could come and watch the return of 'The Rock', Jonno got the wrong end of the stick and put on his favourite programme 'Today's Geology, Yesterday's Hydrology'. As thrilling as Jonno finds geology, he really did spoil the party for his friends who wanted to watch Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's return to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). The disappointment was not abated, unsurprisingly, when Jonno told them that this film directed by Mike Figgis launched Nicolas Cage to Golden Globe and Academy Award success in the category of Best Actor.

5. A good friend of Jonno's asked him to go and see the local doctor to ask if she will do a house visit. His friend, worried that he may have an injury, was certainly not amused when Jonno arrived back with the autograph of a famous actor. Who played the part of the title character in the TV series 'House'?

Answer: Hugh Laurie

Jonno relayed Hugh Laurie's apologies that he could not meet Jonno's friend in person but the star of 'House' hoped that an autograph would make up for it. Needless to say, the autograph was of no use to his bruised foot!

Hugh Laurie was the main character in the long running medical drama 'House', a show so popular that the public still wanted more after seven seasons. The misanthropic Gregory House alienated the other physicians with his abrasive conduct and tactless persona. However, Dr. House was ultimately an asset to the hospital, solving complex medical cases that no other professional in the field could.

6. A friend was prepared to attend a Sherlock Holmes convention but he was missing an important piece of clothing - a hat! Jonno had to come to the rescue and was tasked with finding this very elusive hat. However, Jonno misunderstood what was asked of him and took his friend to a forest where he knew a certain animal resided. What type of hat is associated with Sherlock Holmes?

Answer: Deerstalker

Jonno, the walking fashion disaster that he is, had no idea what a deerstalker was and so took his friend to the forest to watch deer in their natural habitat. Unfortunately, the members of the convention Jonno's friend was due to attend were going to throw him a surprise party. Never mind, what could be more delightful than sitting in the forest with Jonno?

The deerstalker is well-known for being the hat of choice in many of the incarnations of Sherlock Holmes. However, Jonno wasn't quite as dim as even he thought, as the deerstalker was worn by hunters who were on the lookout for, well, deer. According to the very reliable Wikipedia, the deerstalker is characterised by its "twill textile weave" which can be identified by "diagonal parallel ribs".

7. Jonno was asked by a rather misguided friend to organise a group-bonding trip to a Californian theme park. When Jonno led his friends to Farmer Dafydd's cowshed, just a few miles from their halls of residence, one friend just wept. Knott's Berry Farm has two main sections, a rather quaint zone containing older attractions such as the Calico Mine Train and a newer zone more suited to modern thrill-seekers. Jonno genuinely has been to Knott's Berry Farm but this was before the introduction of the Silver Bullet roller coaster in 2004; an impressive structure that, upon its completion, ranked amongst the longest inverted roller coasters in the west of the United States.

8. Jonno's reputation for spoiling people's birthdays was solidified when, after being asked to book tickets to see a comic, Jonno bought the birthday boy the newest edition of 'The Beano'! Was the first issue of 'The Beano' published before the first issue of 'The Dandy'?

The birthday boy graciously thanked Jonno, not wanting to mention that he was a big fan of stand-up comedy and despised comic books. The late 1930s saw the launch of two much-loved comic books, 'The Beano' and 'The Dandy'. 'The Beano' has been running, mainly as a weekly publication, since July 1938 whilst 'The Dandy' has been in print since December 1937.

A monthly publication that predates both 'The Beano' and 'The Dandy' is 'Detective Comics' which has been delighting its readers since March 1937.

9. Jonno is, rather absurdly, viewed as reliable by his friends, so he was put in charge of organising a trip for a friend's niece. He was asked to organise a party where the source of entertainment would be somebody dressed up in a Looney Tunes costume. Which of the following is a Looney Tunes character?

Answer: Daffy Duck

Seeing as Jonno is incapable of doing anything right, his friend's niece ended up in tears when the party turned out to be six glorious hours by the local pond watching the mallards paddle by. And yes, it did rain!

Out of the four answers, only Daffy Duck, with his delightful black and orange appearance, is a Looney Tunes character. Donald Duck, Daisy Duck and Louie Duck are all Disney characters; Daisy Duck being the love interest of Donald and Louie Duck being one of the famous trio of Donald's nephews: Huey, Dewey and Louie.

10. The most important day of the year arrives - Jonno's birthday! He decided that now is the time to do something about his terrible fashion sense and asked a friend studying textiles if he could get him a session with a famous fashion designer. Unfortunately, his friend "misheard" what Jonno said and thought he was asking for the DVD box set of a TV series which followed the lives of fashion journalists. Well Jonno struggled to hide his indignation. After all that he had done for his friends over the years, this is how he is repaid! Every cloud though, as Jonno discovered he loved the show 'Ugly Betty' and thought he was God's gift to Earth when he told his friends that the magazine in the show is named after the French for "fashion"!

'Ugly Betty', starring America Ferrera, was broadcast over four seasons (2006-2010). The programme was essentially about the desire of Betty Suarez to fit in and make a success of herself in the cruel and sometimes superficial world of fashion journalism. Another character that struggled to fit in was Betty's brother Justin, played by Mark Indelicato, a camp character who was bullied in school and for a time not accepted by his father. Justin's father, played by the handsome Kevin Alejandro, tried to suppress his son's interest in fashion and musicals and enlighten him to the macho world of basketball. The basketball given to Justin by his father would later prove to be a poignant prop in the storyline.
