Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which hand is the winning hand? (If it's difficult to read the numbers - look at the spots on the cards.)

Answer: It's a push, both the same 18

The dealer has three cards totaling 18. The player has an Ace which is either a 1 or 11. He's using it as a one and has a total of 18. Neither person would win and the hand is a push (or the same).

When a dealer is counting the cards, they need to be fast, so we would total the two 5's to create 10 in our mind and add the 18. The same with the player's hand. Add the 6 and 4 to create 10, add 7 plus 1. Easy and fast way of counting for a blackjack dealer. Always group the combinations together.

You try it now!
6 - 7 - 8 equals 21.
6 - 6 - 9 equals 21
7 - 7 - 7 is always 21.
2. Which hand wins?

Answer: Player

Another fast combination is 5 - 7 - 9. It's going to add up quickly to 21. Nothing but a blackjack can beat a 21.

The dealer has 6 and 5 for 11 and then add 8, very quick math for 19.

The player wins this hand and should add just a little bit of his/her winnings to the next hand to increase their odds of winning. Two factors in winning blackjack. Correct playing and betting strategy. With these two, you increase your odds tremendously!
3. Which of the four hands should you NEVER split?

Answer: King King

The three could be split at various times in blackjack, but never ever split two face cards. This would decrease your odds of winning. Now some people think it's a good thing if the dealer is showing a lower card, like a 6. No! The odds would decrease. Remember, you are playing perfect basic strategy and that means never splitting face cards!
4. What should you do if you get this hand dealt to you in blackjack?

Answer: Double Down

Anytime you have a total of 11, you want to double your bet and get one card. The odds are you'll pull up a 10 and win double your money. You want to take advantage of a few hands in blackjack. One is doubling down and receiving one card only. Which we call double-down. The second is splitting. You should know when to split certain cards only.
5. How much is this in blackjack?

Answer: 21

The best hands in blackjack are those that add up to 21. 6-7-8 and 5-7-9 and 7-7-7. They all equal 21. If you have these cards, smile big and you are almost guaranteed to win the hand. After winning, increase your bet just a little bit. One unit is the way to go up on your betting strategy.

For example, you are betting $10. If you win the $10 bet, go up to $15, then the next winning bet is to $20. If you happen to lose, drop down to $10 again.
6. If you are the Player what would you do against the Dealer?

Answer: Stand

The dealer always has one hidden card. You always assume that bottom card is a 10. That's the strategy part. So if the dealer has a 10 in the hole and shows an 8. He/she would have 18 and you would win with a 20. Not all the time that happens, but that's what we call the odds. Whatever you do, NEVER split the 10s. You could ruin a good hand and your odds are decreased immensely.
7. If you are the Player what would you do against the Dealer?

Answer: Double Down

Another great time of doubling down is when you have a total of 10 and the dealer has a smaller card. For example, a 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Use this opportunity to double your bet and get one card. The nice part is when the dealer has a 4 - 5 or 6, not only do you get a chance to double, but he/she has a great opportunity to go over 21 and you'll have two chances of winning money!
8. Rumor has it that you should always split these sets of cards.

Answer: True

Yes, you always want to split Aces and 8s. Now some people get really nervous splitting two 8s against the dealer's 10. Don't get me wrong, it is very scary but according to basic strategy you must always split. They say that you have two ways of winning or breaking even.

Most casinos, when you split Aces, you only get one card a piece. Most of the time you will get at least one 10 and be sitting with 21. By the way, when you split Aces and get a 10. This is NOT considered a blackjack. A blackjack is the two ORIGINAL cards and not after a split.
9. Who wins this hand?

Answer: Tie or Push

It is a tie or a push, as we say. You do not need to keep the bet the same. The brand new hand starts and you may always change your bet after a hand, regardless if you pushed or not.

The original two cards is considered a blackjack or 21. You will never lose with a blackjack, but you may tie the dealer.
10. Is this a hard or soft 18?

Answer: Soft

When you have an Ace in your hand, it is considered a 1 or 11. This is known as a soft 18. A and 7 is 8 or 18. When it's both it's considered 'soft'. When you have a 10 and a 8. This is known as a 'hard' 18. It will always be considered 18.
