Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In which 1982 movie does failed actor, Michael Dorsey (Dustin Hoffman) learn he is a "better person as a woman than he ever was as a man"?

Answer: Tootsie

Michael Dorsey (Hoffman) has a reputation of being difficult to work with, and as such, finds it difficult to get a job. In order to help his friend Sandy (Terri Garr) he dresses as a woman and auditions for a television role.
In true movie style though, things go too far, and Dorsey cannot extricate himself from his female alter ego.
2. Yeah, but no, but yeah, but Vicky Pollard is a moody, obnoxious teenager, played by Matt Lucas. On which television series did Vicky catch the public eye?

Answer: Little Britain

"Little Britain" is an award-winning character-based comedy show written by Matt Lucas and David Williams, which first appeared on BBC radio 4. It soon gained popularity and notoriety after appearing on television soon after. The show has since branched out to include Christmas specials and a live stage show.

Vicky Pollard, apart from being moody and obnoxious, speaks very quickly and inarticulately, but is a font of all local gossip. She is well known for her various catchphrases, if you can understand her Bristol accent.
"Oh, I soooo can't believe you just said that!"
3. With Vinnie Barbarino, Tony Manero and Danny Zuko, you can expect lots of hair gel. But hairspray? Which Golden Globe winning actor, who made these roles famous, played a very credible Edna Turnblad?

Answer: John Travolta

They say it isn't over until the fat lady sings. Well she sings and dances in "Hairspray". This 2007 Adam Shankman directed film starred John Travolta as Edna Turnblad, a shy, overweight housewife. We are used to seeing John portraying hitmen and high school delinquents, and seeing him as a very believable woman is a culture shock.

But he portrays Edna so well, that after a few minutes, you forget that Edna is really a man in a fat lady suit.
4. Martin Lawrence starred as an FBI agent who goes undercover to solve a crime. Lawrence did such a good job portraying a cantankerous southern granny, that he reprised the role again and again. Which 2000 comedy was this?

Answer: Big Momma's House

When released in 2000, "Big Momma's House" became an instant hit, opening as the number two movie in North America. "Mission Impossible II" only narrowly beat it to the top spot. In this movie, FBI agent Malcolm Turner (Lawrence) impersonates elderly, obese woman Big Momma, in order to catch a bank robber.

As Big Momma, Malcolm delivers babies, dishes up southern food and falls in love with Big Momma's granddaughter. Can he catch the thief and still win the girl while impersonating her grandmother?
5. One actor made a name for himself by playing an overweight professor in a remake of a Jerry Lewis movie. But he wasn't happy with that. In the sequel, this actor came back as the whole family, including Mum and Granny! Which funny man played a whole clump of dysfunctional people?

Answer: Eddie Murphy

"Nutty Professor II: The Klumps" is a 2000 comedy starring Eddie Murphy. In this sequel he reprises his role of Sherman Klump, a morbidly obese University Professor. He also plays most of Sherman's family; Cletus (Papa) Klump, young Cletus Klump, Mama Klump, Granny Klump and Ernie Klump. Riotous fun abounds at the dinner table!
6. When Laurel Ayres realizes that only white men can make it on Wall Street, she turns the tables on them and becomes one. Which actress played Laurel Ayres and her unlikely partner Robert Cutty?

Answer: Whoopi Goldberg

In "The Associate" (1996), Whoopi Goldberg plays Laurel Ayres, a black woman trying to make it in the white-male dominated world of Wall Street. After starting her own company, she invents the fictitious Robert Cutty as her partner. From then on, all is a murky shade of grey as Laurel and her alter ego Cutty try to carve up the competition. It all begins to unravel when Cutty is forced to show his non-existent white face in public.
Diane Weist is great in this movie as Laurel's assistant.
Cindy Mason and Camille Scott are other characters in the movie.
7. Shawn and Marlon Wayans are hapless FBI agents who have been given one last chance to save their careers. They must masquerade as sister heiresses in order to foil a kidnapping plot in which 2004 movie?

Answer: White Chicks

Two black detectives, Kevin and Marcus Copeland (Shawn and Marlon Wayans), are assigned the dubious honour of protecting two white heiresses, all while attempting to lure out the would-be kidnappers. After the sisters are injured in a minor accident, the detectives must masquerade as the sisters in order to save not only the girls, but their own careers as well.
Keenan, Shawn and Marlon Wayans produced the BET (Black Entertainment Television) award-winning movie "White Chicks" (2004).
8. In the Caribbean, two pirates dress as women in order to distract the Navy's finest while their fellow pirates takeover their ship. Who were these two pirates?

Answer: Pintel and Ragetti

After the pirates failed to lift their curse, and with the Navy lying in wait to arrest them, they stage an ingenious takeover. While Pintel and Ragetti dress as women and row out of the cave, causing a diversion, the other pirates walk across the ocean floor and climb the anchor ropes onto the ship.
Since their release, the "Pirates of the Caribean" (POTC) movies have become box office hits, with Johnny Depp reportedly been paid $55 million to reprise his role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the fourth instalmant.
Anyone who knows me, knows I am a POTC fan, so it should come as no surprise that I added this question. The only surprise that I left it until the end!
9. Three sleeze-bag frat boys, who were kicked out of their fraternity house, masquerade as girls to stay in a sorority house. Which of these was not one the Sorority boys?

Answer: Billy (Matthew Lawrence)

Sorority boys Dave, Doofer and Adam are kicked out after being (falsely) accused of stealing house funds. With no money, and nowhere to stay, they dress up as girls, and are taken in by the DOGs (Delta Omicron Gamma) while they try to clear their names.
The movie opened in 2002 to blanket panning by the critics, and despite being a financial disaster, it is regularly aired on comedy channels.
Matthew Lawrence was a child star in "Mrs Doubtfire" and later in "The Hairy Bird" and "The Hot Chick".
10. Matt Lucas again dons a female guise, this time as an obese woman running weight loss centre. Who is this terrifying leader of "Fatfighters"?

Answer: Marjorie

Marjorie Dawes is the leader of the "Fatfighters" weight loss center who mercilessly belittles and humiliates the group for being so fat. Of course, she is oblivious to the fact that she is also overweight, and hopelessly addicted to biscuits and crisps.
Bubbles Devere and Emily are two other female characters played by Matt Lucas, while Florence, a 'real" lady, is portrayed by David Williams.
All of these characters appear on televisions "Little Brittain".
