On an episode of WWE's "Championship Wrestling" airing in July of 1986, Paul "Mister Wonderful" Orndorff and Hulk Hogan faced the Heenan Family members King Kong Bundy and Big John Studd in a tag team match. The match ended in a disqualification as the Heenan Family double teamed Hulk Hogan. Orndorff saved Hogan from the double team only to attack the "Hulkster" himself. Orndorff celebrated with the Heenan Family after the attack.

Bobby "the Brain" Heenan led Paul "Mister Wonderful" Orndorff to feud with Hulk Hogan for the next six months over WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The feud culminated with a Steel Cage Match on the January 3, 1987 episode of WWE's "Saturday Night's Main Event".
