Ted and his friends are a group of young adults living, working and dating in Manhattan.

The plot hinged on the suspense of who the mother would turn out to be. While the series was well received, the ending left viewers in two distinct groups of those who liked it and those who felt it went against the whole build up. The editor turns out to be a slave driver making life hell for Andrea. The popularity of the book led to a movie version starring Anne Hathaway as Andrea and Meryl Streep as the editor Miranda Priestley. Like the book, the movie was a box office success with Streep earning an Oscar nomination and Golden Globe Award for Best Actress for her performance.
