1. Ed Stewart was the longest running presenter of "Junior Choice". Who presented the show before him?

Answer: Leslie Crowther

Ed Stewart presented the show from 1968 to 1980.

All of the choices, including Ed Stewart, have also presented the children's TV show "Crackerjack".
2. Who replaced Ed Stewart as presenter in 1980?

Answer: Tony Blackburn

In 1982 the title of "Junior Choice" was replaced by "The Weekend Breakfast Show", effectively ending an era. All the choices were Radio 1 disc jockeys at one time or another. John Peel is probably best known for presenting "The Old Grey Whistle Test".
3. On what station was "Junior Choice" broadcast?

Answer: Radio 2

Radio 1 was the BBC's answer to the outlawed pirate radio stations and mainly broadcasts pop and rock music. Radio 2 tends more towards "easy listening". Radio 3 is mainly devoted to classical music, and Radio 4 broadcasts news, dramas and discussion programmes.
4. "Morningtown Ride" was the introductory music to the show for most of the time that Ed Stewart presented it. Which group took this song to No. 2 in the UK charts in December 1966?

Answer: The Seekers

The words and music to "Morningtown Ride" were written by Malvina Reynolds. The song was originally written as a lullaby for children who were reluctant to go to bed at night.
5. "Junior Choice" evolved from another programme that aired between 1954-1966. What was the name of this programme?

Answer: "Children's favourites"

In its turn, "Children's Favourites" evolved from a programme called "Children's Choice". The theme tune for "Children's Favourites" was "Puffing Billy", played by the Melodi Light Orchestra.
6. Anyone who listened to "Junior Choice" in its heyday will remember the song "My Bruvver". Which comedian sang it?

Answer: Terry Scott

Benny Hill sang "Ernie, The Fastest Milkman in the West". Spike Milligan and Michael Bentine were two of "The Goons" and are associated with that timeless classic "The Ying Tong Song".
7. Another often requested song on "Junior Choice" was by Charlie Drake, complaining that something wouldn't come back. What was that something?

Answer: Boomerang

Charlie Drake also sang "I've Lost The End Of My Yodel", another favourite on "Junior Choice".
8. Another song involved the singer enquiring into the cost of what animal that languished in a pet shop window?

Answer: Doggy

Lita Roza took "How Much Is That Doggy In the Window" to No. 1 in the UK charts in 1953. It was in the charts for a total of eleven weeks and has remained a children's favourite.
9. Which singer noisily lamented that "I've Lost My Mummy"?

Answer: Rolf Harris

Rolf Harris also sang another favourite on the programme, "Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport". I've never quite worked out what that one is about.
10. Ed Stewart played a catchphrase of a cheeky young boy saying something. What was he saying?

Answer: "'Ello darlin'"

The catchphrase became so popular that people would write in to request it as a greeting to their nearest and dearest!

British disc jockeys in the 1960s and 1970s all seemed to have a catchphrase or gimmick - among them Alan Freeman and "Greetings, pop pickers" and Tony Blackburn and his dog, Arnold.
