1. The Cowardly Lion
Answer: Wizard of Oz
The Cowardly Lion is one of the three creatures that Dorothy Gale meets on her journey to the Emerald City in the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz". Prior to meeting him, Dorothy also meets a Scarecrow and a Tin Man, one (Scarecrow) who is search of a brain and the second (Tin Man) who is in search of a heart.
The Cowardly Lion is searching for courage. "The Wizard of Oz" was based on the 1900 novel "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" by Frank L. Baum. The Cowardly Lion also appears in the children's cartoon series "The Oz Kids", the 2013 animated musical comedy "Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return", and a cameo appearance in the fantasy adventure film "Oz the Great and Powerful".
2. Simba
Answer: The Lion King
Simba is the son of the great King Mufasa first appearing in the 1994 Walt Disney film "The Lion King". Witnessing his fathers death at the hands of Mufasa's brother Scar, Simba is blamed for his father's death and Scar sends out his team of thugs to kill Simba, but Simba escapes. Simba is rescued by two outcasts, Timon and Pumbaa.
As Simba becomes and adult, he encounters an old friend, Nala, who initially tries to convince Simba to rescue The Pride Lands which have been taken over and destroyed by Scar. Simba refuses, but is later convinced to go back. With the help of his new friends, he returns to The Pride Land since witnessing the death of his father. Scar is thrown off of a rock and his hyenas eat him alive for being betrayed. At the end of the film, Simba is given kingship over the land, restoring it to what it once used to be.
3. Aslan
Answer: The Chronicles of Narnia
Aslan first appears in the C.S. Lewis book "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" and ultimately helps in defeating the evil forces of the Witch's army. In the 2005 film "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", Aslan is voiced by actor Liam Neeson.
He offers to sacrifice himself and is killed by the White Witch. Aslan is brought back to life by a "deeper magic" and like the book, comes back to help defeat the forces of the Witch's army. In the end, Aslan kills Jadis (The White Witch) and restores life to those on the battlefield.
He quietly disappears while the Pevensie children are crowned the kings and queens of Narnia.
4. Prince John
Answer: Robin Hood
Prince John is the antagonist and brother of King Richard in the 1973 animated Disney film "Robin Hood", the animated television series "House of Mouse", as well as the 2006 television series "Robin Hood". Initially, Prince John is unstable and somewhat of a cry baby, but through the brainwashing of King Richard, becomes the dictator King of England. Prince John is extremely greedy and prides himself on money and wealth.
His personality seems quite angry and he lashes out at others often. In the end, the forces of good come together and King Richard places his brother under arrest, taking back his power as the King of England.
5. Alex the Lion
Answer: Madagascar
"Madagascar" is the first in a series of DreamWorks animated films and tells the story of a group of animals that have been held at the Central Park Zoo. After leaving the zoo and ending up on the island of Madagascar, Alex regains his instincts as a hunter.
When his close friend Marty is attacked by the predators on the island, Alex steps in to defend him. He later appears in various other "Madagascar" movies and series including "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa", "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted", "A Christmas Caper", "Merry Madagascar", and "Madly Madagascar".
6. Lion-O
Answer: ThunderCats
Lion-O is a great leader in both the original ThunderCats animated series that ran from 1985 until 1989 and then in the 2011 television ThunderCats series that lasted one season. He has the ability to see over great distances due to his powerful "Sword of Omens".
He is also noted for using his "Claw Shield", a gauntlet with claws that allow him to grapple. His character is not a true "lion" so to speak as he essentially has the head of a lion in a man's body. During the original series, his prowess is tested but he is ultimately crowned as the Lord of the ThunderCats after partaking in a final battle against the evil Mumm-Ra.
7. Brave Heart Lion
Answer: Care Bears
Brave Heart Lion is one in a group of animal Care Bears that was introduced in the 1985 animated fantasy film "The Care Bears Movie". His specific role as a Care Bear is to help others be "brave". Like all of the Care Bears, he has a specific colour and symbol designated to him.
In this case, he is represented by orange fur and a heart with a gold crown on his belly. He later reappears in the animated Netflix series ""Care Bears and Cousins" that debuted in 2015.
8. Sabor
Answer: Tarzan
In Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Tarzan" series of books, the term Sabor referred to a group of "lionesses". Sabor was the lioness that was ultimately responsible for the death of Tarzan's parents. In the animated series of films, Sabor is actually a leopard and is featured in both the 1999 animated "Tarzan" and 2005 "Tarzan II" films.
9. Leomon
Answer: Digimon
Leomon is an orange and yellow lion-man character in the Japanese anime television, film, and video game series "Digimon". Leomon is classified as an Animal Digimon and is considered a Noble Hero. He is often referred to as the "King of the Beasts" often able to withstand and endure heavy attacks by opponents and his tough physique allows him to choke the life out of even the greatest of competitors.
10. Leodore Lionheart
Answer: Zootopia
"Zootopia" also known as "Zootropolis" in the United Kingdom, is a 2016 3D computer animated comedy film that revolves an world that is populated by animals that are trying to solve the mystery of disappearing inhabitants in a mammal kingdom. Leodore Lionheart (aka Mayor Lionheart), is the mayor of Zootopia and is voiced by actor J.K. Simmons. With a strong and pompous persona, Lionheart has one goal; to give all mammals a chance to live their dreams.
Unfortunately, Leodore Lionheart also has a dark side, often going to illegal measures to ensure that all creatures within his city are able to receive equal treatment.
