Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who hosted the Haunt for a majority of the 90's?

Answer: Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

Even though the Cryptkeeper had hosted quite a few shows, the honor actually goes to Elvira. Wolfman Jack hosted for a few years in the early years of the haunt in the 1970's, after Seymour passed away. Rob Zombie has never hosted he haunt.
2. Which of the following movies was turned into a maze for the Haunt?

Answer: The Grudge 2

Even though there was a maze years ago entitled "The Horrorwood Hotel", which featured scenes from famous horror movies. There was never a maze that focused on one movie, until this year when Knott's was given the privilege to do a special maze based on "The Grudge 2".

There was a maze called "The Asylum" which was inspired by "The House on Haunted Hill", and "The Voodoo Witch Project" which was inspired by "Blair Witch".
3. What is the longest running show at the Haunt?

Answer: The Hanging Show

Originally, "The Hanging" was a short 20 minute show that was very serious. The plot was that the citizens of Calico caught a witch in their midst and they decide to hang her. Instead of being hanged though, when the executioner pulled the lever, there was a fireball, and in plain view of the audience she drops through, turns into a dove, and flys away.

The modern hanging however has turned into a 40 minute comedy extravaganza of parodies, toilet humor, pop culture, pyrotechniques, and gore.
4. Each year, Camp Snoopy is turned into what scare zone for the Haunt?

Answer: the gauntlet

Every year, Ghost Town remains the same (it's the original scare zone including undead cowboys and zombie townfolk), Silver Bullet Mine Town also remains the same (but with werewolves and dead cowboys), the Boardwalk becomes CarnEVIL (including scary clowns and dead 50's pop culture icons), and finally Camp Snoopy becomes The Gauntlet (which has a medieval theme that includes dead knights, jesters, barbarians, and kings).
5. What was the very first maze in Haunt history to be featured in 3D?

Answer: Carnival of the Carnivorous Clowns

Carnival of the Carnivorous Clowns first premiered in 2000 near the once abandoned Windjammer. It had an extremely long run (6 years), and only changed locations once, when construction began on Xcellerator, the location changed to the Buffalo Nickel Arcade. Eventually 2005 was the last run for this maze for two reasons. One, the theme has exhausted and the maze was old. Two, the Buffalo Nickel Arcade was about to be torn down and replaced with a Johnny Rockets, and with that done, the clowns would no longer have a home.
6. Which maze did Elvira finally takeover in 2000?

Answer: Nightmares

Even though Nightmares had been running for 6 years already, for the 7th (and unfortunately its last year), scenes incorporating Elvira into the theme was added. Although many fans objected to this decision, it was actually not that bad and did not take away the essence of this truely amazing maze.
7. Which extinct Knott's Berry Farm attraction was once home to mazes such as Curse of the Werewolf, Deadman's Wharf, and Toxichem?

Answer: The Haunted Shack

Sadly, the Haunted Shack was torn down in 2000 because of termite infestation and poor condition. Once down, a thrill ride was built in its place, Vertigo, later to become Scream Swing. The Haunted Shack in its early days usually held toxic waste and alien themes, but was changed to have Curse of the Werewolf in the late 90's.

The very last maze to be featured here before it was torn down was Deadman's Wharf.
8. What is one of the original Haunt concepts that lasted from the first year up until 1994, when they were boarded up?

Answer: Peek-ins

From opening year to 1994, monsters hid inside the little scenes that were featured in Ghost Town. These scenes showed what life was like during the days of the old west, but during the Haunt were changed into terrifying scenes. Monsters would then hide inside and scare whoever was brave enough to look inside.

The peek-ins had to be boarded up though because the buildings were experiencing a lot of wear and tear because, after all, these building weren't designed to have people hiding in them.
9. What was the only maze to be featured in Jaguar?

Answer: Temple of Sacrifice

This maze only lasted from 2002-2005. It never did turn out the way everybody wanted to, due to its limited space and lack of huge themes and props. It was still nontheless a great experience and will certainly go down in Haunt history.
10. What was the very first maze ever in Knott's Scary Farm history?

Answer: The Ten Chilling Chambers

When the Haunt first opened, it retained a very party like atmosphere, including live shows, dance floors, live music, and a small selection of stuntmen to dress as the classic Universal monsters to add to the atmosphere. It wasn't until 1975 when The Ten Chilling Chambers was opened.

There was no real underlying theme in this maze. It was just a clump of differently themed rooms such as the "strobe room", "rat room", "alien room", the "body parts room", and "illusion room".
