Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where does Mickey Mouse live?

Answer: Mouseton

Mickey's hometown has changed several times over the years. In 1932 it was called Silo Center in a comic story. Other stories simply called it Hometown. It was also called Topolina from the Italian for 'little mouse'. However, in 1990, Disney launched a new comic called "Mickey Mouse Adventures" and they wanted a new name for his home town.

The preferred option was "Mouseville" but Mighty Mouse, another non-Disney animated character already used it so they used the name "Mouseton" instead. A second publisher used the name "Duckburg" as the home of Donald Duck between 1993-99. Since 2003, the name "Mouseton" has been used consistently.
2. What colour are Mickey's shoes usually?

Answer: Yellow

The original Mickey Mouse as seen in the film "Plane Crazy"(1928), didn't have any gloves or shoes at all. Shoes appeared in the film "Gallopin' Gaucho" (1928) and gloves in "The Opry House" (1929).
3. What is unusual about Mickey's ears?

Answer: They are always face on towards the viewer

If you look at a 2-D image of Mickey, you will see that no matter which way Mickey's head is looking, you can see both ears as full circles.
4. Goofy was introduced in 1932. He is sometimes shown as single and at other times he has a girlfriend called __________ Cow. What should go in the space?

Answer: Clarabelle

Clarabelle Cow was introduced in 1928. Besides Goofy, she sometimes dates Horace Horsecollar. Clarabelle loves to gossip and is a friend of Donald Duck. Goofy was originally called Dippy Dawg.
5. Walt Disney intended to name Mickey something else but his wife Lilian convinced him to use the name Mickey instead. What name did Walt intend to use?

Answer: Mortimer

Mickey may not be called Mortimer but that's not to say there isn't one. Mortimer Mouse was also the name of Minnie's uncle and there was yet another Mortimer Mouse who was Mickey's rival for the affections of Minnie.
6. What is the name of the character who often tries to makes life difficult for Mickey?

Answer: Pete

Pete is also known as Peg-leg-Pete or Black Pete. The character was introduced in 1928 and often teams up with the crooked lawyer/evil mastermind, Sylvester Shyster.
7. What was the THIRD Mickey Mouse film made?

Answer: Steamboat Willie

Plane Crazy and The Gallopin' Gaucho were the first two Mickey Mouse films produced but they failed to find a distributor. Walt Disney was working on Steamboat Willie when the world's first talkie, "The Jazz Singer", was released. Walt wanted Steamboat Willie to have a synchronised sound track too, realising that that was the future of cinema. Steamboat Willie was the first Mickey Mouse film to actually be distributed but the third made.

It was an instant hit and was the start of the Disney legend.
8. Mickey is to Pete as Pluto is to _____?

Answer: Butch

Mickey's dog is called Pluto and Pete's dog is Butch the Bulldog. Butch was introduced in the film "Bone Trouble" (1940) where Pluto tries to steal his bone. Butch has been trouble for Pluto ever since. Dinah the Dachshund is often a source of competition between Pluto and Butch. Nowadays, Butch is usually seen in the children's TV series Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
9. Pluto strangely (to me at least), has an aquatic rival who just loves to annoy him. What sort of creature is he?

Answer: Seal

Salty the seal usually pops up in scenes where there is water or other locations such as circuses and zoos where a seal would not be out of place. Salty usually leads Pluto into all sorts of dangerous scrapes before saving the day and making friends with Pluto again (until the next time of course).
10. I'm sure we all recognise Huey, Dewey and Louie as the nephews of Donald Duck, but who were the nephews of Mickey?

Answer: Morty and Ferdie

Their mother is Felicity Fieldmouse (nee Mouse), Mickey's sister. Morty and Ferdie first appeared in Floyd Gottfredson's Mickey Mouse Sunday strip story titled "Mickey's Nephews" (1932).
