Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The world was introduced to Donald Duck in 1934, although it was a lot later that his parentage was established. His father's name suggests an excess of what ducks do best. So, Donald, who's your daddy?

Answer: Quackmore Duck

Quackmore and wife, Hortense, have never appeared on screen and we owe knowledge of them to the Disney "Duck Man", illustrator Carl Barks, and the family tree that he compiled with Mark Worden. Hortense is the youngest sister of Scrooge McDuck. Donald is, in fact, a twin whose twin sister, Della (originally Dumbella), is the mother of Huey, Dewey and Louie.
2. In 1991's "Beauty and the Beast", Belle's inventor father was given a suitably French name. So, Belle, who's your daddy?

Answer: Maurice

Belle gets to play house-guest at the Beast's castle when she takes the place of the captured Maurice, who was voiced by Rex Everhart. The name Maurice derives from a Latin word meaning dark-skinned or Moorish in complexion and has passed into English usage via the French.
3. You've tried "Finding Nemo". Now try finding his father. So, Nemo, who's your daddy?

Answer: Marlin

Marlin and Dory are both good fishy names but the inspiration for their use in "Finding Nemo" comes from their proximity as street names to Pixar Studios. Marlin Drive and Dory Lane are located in Redwood City, California.
4. Johnny Depp, as Captain Jack Sparrow, is many people's favorite Disney pirate. In, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" (2007), his father was revealed. Captain Teague Sparrow is played by a member of the Rolling Stones that was Johnny Depp's inspiration for Captain Jack. So, Jack, who's your daddy?

Answer: Keith Richards

"I thought of Keith because he's a guy I've admired for many, many years. I didn't want to do an imitation of Keith, or a character study, just a kind of salute to him, you know, to show him I appreciate him. I was thinking about the pirates of the 18th century, about how they were the rocks stars of their day. So I thought who's the greatest rock and roll star who ever lived? And to me, it's Keith Richards hands down. Keith is a bit of a pirate himself." (Johnny Depp quoted in the UK "Daily Mail", September 15th, 2006)

At just four minutes in total, Richards' screen appearance is definitely a cameo.
5. I hope that a visit to "The Little Mermaid" doesn't have you floundering. So, Ariel, who's your daddy?

Answer: King Triton

In Greek mythology, Triton is the son of Poseidon, king of the sea. Neptune is Poseidon's Roman counterpart. Although he is named in the Disney's movie, Triton is referred to only as the "Sea King" in Hans Christian Anderson's original story.
6. The identity of Aladdin's father was not revealed in the 1992 Disney movie nor its 1994 sequel, "The Return of Jafar". This had to wait until a 1996 direct-to-video sequel. So, Aladdin, who's your daddy?

Answer: Cassim, King of thieves

Cassim, voiced by John Rhys-Davies, appeared in "Aladdin and the King of Thieves". Rhys-Davies' roles are many and varied and have included the Lord of the Rings trilogy (Gimli and an Ent); the Indiana Jones movies (Sallah); "The Living Daylights" (General Leonid Pushkin) and, on TV, "SpongeBob SquarePants" (Man Ray).
7. To discover Tarzan's aristocratic father, we have to go beyond the Disney movie to the novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs on which it is based. So, Tarzan, who's your daddy?

Answer: Lord Greystoke

"We know only that on a bright May morning in 1888, John, Lord Greystoke, and Lady Alice sailed from Dover on their way to Africa. A month later they arrived at Freetown where they chartered a small sailing vessel, the Fuwalda, which was to bear them to their final destination. And here John, Lord Greystoke, and Lady Alice, his wife, vanished from the eyes and from the knowledge of men." ("Tarzan of the Apes" by Edgar Rice Burroughs, 1914)

In the Disney movie, Tarzan's parents are never named. It stays close to the original in having Tarzan adopted by apes after they die whilst he is a baby. How they die differs between the two. Burroughs had Tarzan's mother die naturally and his father at the hands of Kerchak, the leader of the gorilla troop. Disney had them both killed by a leopard.
8. I can find no record of the identity of Mickey Mouse's father but love interest Minnie's father was featured in the 1930 Disney comic strip story, "Mr. Slicker and the Egg Robbers". So, Minnie, who's your daddy?

Answer: Marcus Mouse

Marshall Mouse is Minnie's grandfather.

The plot is interesting in showing Mickey trying to kill himself, something surely unimaginable in later years. He believes that Mr. Slicker is winning his way into Minnie's heart and tries variously to drown, gas, shoot and hang himself besides jumping off a bridge. Each attempt ends in comic disaster but probably best to keep this story away from your little ones!
9. A deer, a rabbit, a skunk and a forest fire? That can only mean 1942's "Bambi". You'll have to work out (bearing in mind that a moose is not a deer!) which of these comes closest, as we ask - so, Bambi, who's your daddy?

Answer: The artist formerly known as Prince

Bambi's father is known as the "Great Prince of the Forest" whilst the new-born Bambi becomes the young prince. The movie is based upon a 1923 novel by Austrian author Felix Salten ("Bambi, A Life in the Woods"). Here, Bambi's father is referred to as the old prince. Salten's book was banned by Adolf Hitler, in 1936, for its supposed Jewish sympathies and many copies were ceremoniously burned.

Mousse T. (rather than Moose T.) is a German DJ best known for his 1998 hit, "Horny" - not really appropriate for creatures with antlers! Neither is Axl Rose's association with Guns N' Roses. The Prodigy is an English group whose single, "Firestarter", topped the UK charts in 1996 - another song that Bambi would probably wish to forget.
10. "Sleeping Beauty" hit movie screens in 1959 and featured a king with a decidedly European sounding name. So, Aurora, who's your daddy?

Answer: King Stefan

"La Belle au Bois Dormant" (The Beautiful Girl Sleeping in the Wood") appears in a collection of fairy tales published in 1697 by French author, Charles Perrault and was further popularised by the Brothers Grimm. Neither of these identified Aurora's parents whom Disney named King Stefan and Queen Leah. An opera by Michele Carafa and the more famous Tchaikovsky ballet both use the name King Florestan.

Up until 1997, the restaurant in Walt Disney World's Cinderella's Castle was called King Stefan's Banqueting Hall in a distinct mish-mash of movies.
