Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sally wrote a Christmas story about Santa Claus for her class assignment. What did she mistakenly call the reindeer?

Answer: Rain Gear

Poor Sally was humiliated when the entire class laughed at her. She came home and yelled at Charlie Brown, asking him, "Why didn't you tell me it was reindeer?" He tried to tell her as she was writing the story, but as usual, she didn't listen to him.
2. Which celebrity did Sally mistakenly call Saint Nicholas when she was reciting the poem "'Twas The Night Before Christmas"?

Answer: Jack Nicklaus

Sally was reciting the poem to Charlie Brown. "Remember, if I don't get something quite right, let me know." she said. As she recited, she said, "The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hope that Jack Nicklaus soon would be there." Charlie Brown replied, "I almost hate to bring this up." For once, Sally wasn't laughed at for her mistake.

The other choices are also real celebrities:
Ben Nicholas is an Australian actor.
Harold Nicholas was an American dancer.
Johnny Nicholas is an American blues musician.
3. This malapropism appeared in both the comic strip and in the television special, "It's Christmas Again, Charlie Brown!" Sally had one line in the Christmas play. She played the angel who appeared to the shepherds in the field. Her only line was "Hark!" What did she say instead?

Answer: Hockey stick!

In the television special, which is more detailed than Charles Schultz drew in the strip, Sally rehearses her line daily for two weeks, as well as the whole time she is waiting to go on stage. She gets it perfect until she goes on. She must have been thinking of Charlie Brown, as he was putting tape on his hockey stick while Sally rehearsed. Again, she was laughed at and humiliated by the entire audience, but for once didn't blame her brother for her mistake.
4. What did Sally answer when her teacher asked the class, "What is a centimeter?"

Answer: "If any centimeters come crawling into this room, I'll step on 'em!"

Sally doesn't seem to pay much attention to anyone! As usual, she was embarrassed by the class laughing at her!
5. Again, Sally was writing a report for school with the theme: "Vandalism as a Problem Today." What does she mistakenly say about vandals?

Answer: "They are encouraged by Evandalists!"

And guess what? She was humiliated again by the classroom laughing at her! If she listened to her teacher, or even Charlie Brown, she could save herself a whole lot of embarrassment!
6. Sally's teacher seems to enjoy having the class write numerous reports. This one was about dinosaurs. What did Sally mistakenly call the Brontosaurs?

Answer: Bronchitis

Sally's report said, "The largest dinosaur that ever lived was the Bronchitis. It soon became extinct. It coughed a lot." I wonder how she passes on to the next grade with these mistakes?
7. When asked by her teacher, "What do you call a person who can use both left and right hands with equal ease?" what was Sally's answer?

Answer: "Handbidextrous!"

Poor Sally tries so hard, but just doesn't seem to get it! "I got laughed at again!" she told Charlie Brown later. "Even the teacher laughed!"
8. Sally was asked on a written exam to name the seven continents. She did name six correctly, but missed the seventh. What did she call Antarctica?

Answer: Aunt Arctica

Sadly for Sally, she wasn't asked to read her report aloud to the class. They never would have noticed this mistake!
9. Sally's next school report was about volcanoes. It read, "Life in the village was peaceful until the volcano..." Instead of saying "erupted", what mistake did she make this time?

Answer: She said it "interrupted".

Next to "Santa Claus and his Rain Gear", this has to be Sally's best malapropism! As usual, the entire class laughed at her. As many times as it happened to her, she still didn't listen to anyone, and still never studied properly to avoid being humiliated!
10. One last written exam of Sally's. When answering a question about English History, she wrote, "Britain was invaded in the year 43 by...". What did she say Britain was invaded by?

Answer: Roman Numerals

Poor Sally! From the time she started school until the end of the comic strip, she never seemed to learn from her prior malapropisms! I wonder if she ever graduated? I think Charles Schultz really enjoyed making someone besides Charlie Brown become humiliated! (It must run in the family!)
