Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of Scrooge McDuck's nephew?

Answer: Donald

Donald Duck, of course, is Scrooge McDuck's nephew, and unlike his rich uncle, Donald is far happier consuming an ice-cream soda than he is rolling in money. Donald first appeared in 1934 in the cartoon "The Wise Little Hen". "Quackmore" was the name of Donald's father.
2. What group of dirty-dog villains are always trying to rob Uncle Scrooge's money bin?

Answer: The Beagle Boys

The Beagle Boys are a family of crooks who wear black Lone Ranger-like masks and who often are referred to by serial numbers, as they tend to be in and out of jail as a result of their ineptness at thievery. They first appeared in "Walt Disney Comics and Stories" #134, and they live in hope that one day they will be able to get away with stealing all of Scrooge's millions.

The Whiskervilles were a clan back in Scotland who were long-standing enemies of the McDuck clan. Flintheart Glomgold is another millionaire who has a history of competing with Scrooge. Bernie Madoff is a real-life person who was responsible for a Ponzi scheme that is considered the biggest fraud in U.S. history.
3. Who created the character of Uncle Scrooge McDuck?

Answer: Carl Barks

Carl Barks created the character of Scrooge and wrote the first stories about him. Charles Schulz was the creator of "Peanuts". Hanna Barbera is the name of an American animation studio that has produced many great animated tv programs, but none about Scrooge. Don Rosa picked up writing and drawing Scrooge McDuck where Carl Barks left off, but Barks was the original creator.
4. What are the names of Uncle Scrooge McDuck's grand-nephews?

Answer: Huey, Dewey, and Louie

Huey, Dewey, and Louie are the triplet nephews of Donald Duck, which makes Scrooge McDuck their great-uncle. Athos, Aramis and Porthos were the names of the Three Musketeers. Snap, Crackle and Pop are the names of the "Rice Krispies" Elves. As for the names Hazy, Lazy, and Crazy, I made those up.
5. What is Scrooge McDuck's one personal superstition?

Answer: His Number One Dime

Scrooge considers his "Number One Dime" to be lucky because it was the first money he ever earned (he received it as pay as a ten-year-old shoeshine boy) and because it was an American coin it was therefore worthless in Scotland, his birthplace, but it nevertheless inspired him to leave his country of origin and go to America to seek his fortune.

While Scrooge may always wear a top hat, he doesn't consider it lucky. He also seems to have celebrated his birthday only once in his life, and he doesn't have a rabbit's foot.
6. Who is the antagonist who is always attempting to steal Scrooge McDuck's most prized item, usually by utilizing "foof bombs?"

Answer: Magica De Spell

Magica De Spell is the sorceress who is always trying to get her hands on Scrooge's Number One dime, usually by using "foof bombs", because she believes if she could only melt the dime down and put it into a magic amulet, it would give her the Midas touch and untold wealth would follow.

Indeed, she first appeared in "The Midas Touch" by Carl Barks in 1961. Flintheart Glomgold is a rich antagonist who might be considered the anti-Scrooge as Glomgold, like Scrooge, amassed a fortune over the years, but unlike Scrooge he never earned it "square", without cheating anyone. John D. Rockerduck is another fabulously wealthy business rival, but unlike Scrooge, Rockerduck inherited most of his wealth from his rich father. Rockerduck is a character better known in European comics than in American ones. Porker Hogg is a villain from Scrooge's youth who frequently tried to steal the wealth earned by the younger Scrooge.
7. What money-related ability, also his main form of relaxation, does Scrooge McDuck possess that is almost like a super-power?

Answer: Diving into and through the coins in his money bin as if they were water

Uncle Scrooge McDuck is (in)famous for diving right into the deep, thoroughly-packed coinage of his money bin and swimming in and out of it as if he were a dolphin. It seems to be the one pleasure he allows himself!
8. Even Scrooge McDuck had his softer side. Who was the girlfriend from Scrooge's past?

Answer: "Glittering Goldie" O'Gilt

"Glittering Goldie" O'Gilt was the girl Scrooge met during his youthful days as a prospector. She first appeared September 18, 1952 in "Back to the Klondike" by Carl Barks, and she and Scrooge met when she stole his Goose Egg gold nugget. Of course, Scrooge got it back! Daisy Duck is the name of Donald's girlfriend; Daphne Gander was the mother of Gladstone Gander, Donald's lucky cousin; and Magica De Spell is the vile sorceress who is always trying to steal Scrooge's Number One dime.
9. By Gadfrey, Scrooge had a bully time when he and this future President of the U.S.A. first encountered each other! Who was this future President?

Answer: Theodore Roosevelt

Scrooge met Theodore Roosevelt for the first time in "The Buckaroo of the Badlands" and again years later in "The Invader of Fort Duckburg," both authored by Don Rosa. Scrooge was a very young cowboy in the former, and had made his millions by the time he and T.R. encountered each other again years later.

In the latter story, T.R. had become President, and Scrooge told him; "You've done almost as well as I have!"
10. What is the title of the very first story in which Scrooge McDuck appeared?

Answer: "Christmas on Bear Mountain"

"Christmas on Bear Mountain" which appeared in "Donald Duck Four Color" # 178 and was written by Carl Barks, first utilized Scrooge McDuck as a character. In this tale Uncle Scrooge meets his nephew and grand-nephews for the first time. The story is as much about Donald and Huey, Dewey, and Louie as it is about Scrooge. "Citizen Kane" is the title of the classic Orson Welles movie about a rich man who spends his whole life trying to find love and a reason for living (very different from Scrooge!) "A Miser's Story" and "What Ho, Nephew" are just titles I made up.
