Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Magic Mountain opened to the public with several rides and a roller coaster. What was the coaster that started there in the beginning?

Answer: Gold Rusher

Gold Rusher, along with the Grand Carousel, Orient Express, Sandblasters, and the Log Jammer were among the many attractions that opened with the park in 1971.
2. When the park opened, Log Jammer proved to be one of the star attractions. In fact, it was such a hit, that a second flume ride was added to the park. What was this ride called and when did it open?

Answer: Jet Stream, 1972

Jet Stream was built on the opposite side of the hill from Log Jammer in 1972. This helped to direct the crowds in more regions of the park as well as reducing queue times for Log Jammer. Jet Stream also featured a double drop channel. At the beginning of the final drop, the flume would split into two channels so two boats could go down at a faster rate.

Unfortunately, Six Flags discontinued the use of the double drop channel.
3. A few years after its opening, Magic Mountain managed to introduce a new roller coaster in 1973. What was it?

Answer: Mountain Express

Mountain Express was a Schwarzkopf Wildcat that ran from 1973-1982. It was later rebuilt and run at a park in Mexico known as as Montana Rusa.
4. Back to modern day Magic Mountain, a collection of coasters have made their home in the park. Many types of coasters can be found except which of these?

Answer: A wingrider

A wingrider looks much like X2 with the exception of the rotating seats and the backwards train.
5. In 1979, Six Flags bought Magic Mountain and introduced new rides as well as a new DC Comics and Looney Tunes theme, replacing Magic Mountain's original theme. What was the original theme?

Answer: Trolls

Merchandise of the Trolls used to be available in many gift shops around the park. To this day, the signs in the Sandblasters reading "entrance" and "exit" still have Trolls painted on them.
6. The iconic Revolution opened at the park in 1976. This great coaster was very distinct because it was which of these?

Answer: the first coaster with a successful loop

Though the Revolution was the first roller coaster with the first successful loop; it was not the first with a loop in general. The first opened in what is now Coney Island, New York as the Flip Flap Railway. Riders experienced G-forces up to 12g's. Unfortunately, the ride was known to snap some riders' necks. Operators even made money by charging people just to watch the ride clear the loop because guests were too scared to ride it.
7. One of the attractions that opened with Magic Mountain was the Sky Tower. Today, we see the red tower as one of the most iconic landmarks in park. How we see the tower today was not how the tower looked in the past though. How was the tower different when the park first opened?

Answer: It was painted black

Intamin (the designer of the tower) originally designed the hexagonal tower concept for Hugh Hefner but he later deemed that the tower was not sophisticated enough for his usage.
8. The Ride, Green Lantern: First Flight, opened at Six Flags Magic Mountain in 2011. The ride was built in the site of which of these?

Answer: a statue in an unused plot of land

The old statue the ride replaced depicted a man with his wife and child with a plaque reading, "Dedicated to the Families of Gotham City."
9. What is the color scheme for Tatsu?

Answer: Yellow spine, Red tracks, Orange supports

Tatsu broke records for the biggest pretzel loop and being the longest, tallest, fastest flying coaster in the world!
10. Goliath is well known to be the tallest full-circuit coaster in the park. Many people report to get a "grey out" or even a black out on which element of the ride?

Answer: The helix

The helix pulls a force of 4g's that is held just long enough before you completely black out.
