Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which of these actors never portrayed Clark Kent/Superman?

Answer: Gene Hackman

Christopher Reeve starred as Clark Kent in all four "Superman" movies from 1978 to 1987. Dean Cain starred in "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" from 1993 to 1997, and Tom Welling played Clark in "Smallville".
2. Now, which of these lovely ladies has never portrayed Lana Lang?

Answer: Lori Fetrick

The correct answer is Lori Fetrick, who played "Vixen" in a season four episode of "Lois and Clark". This question may have been tricky, as Annette O'Toole played Lana Lang in "Superman III", but then many years later played Martha Kent, Clark's mom, on the show "Smallville". Kristin Kreuk plays Lana in "Smallville" and Emily Procter played Lana in one episode of "Lois & Clark", in an episode where Lois ventures to an alternate reality where Clark has his abilities, but isn't Superman, and he is also engaged to Lana Lang, not Lois.
3. In "Superman IV: The Quest for Peace", what is the name of Lex Luthor's latest creation?

Answer: Nuclear Man

In "Superman IV", which is notoriously horrible according to almost all fans, Superman crusades for nuclear disarmament and then meets Lex Luthor's latest creation, Nuclear Man!
4. In this movie, Lois Lane finds out who Clark really is, while Clark becomes temporarily human so he can be intimate with Lois. Meanwhile, three Kryptonians come to Earth to conquer and rule. What movie is this?

Answer: Superman II

"Superman II" is a classic from 1980, and along with the main 'Daily Planet' cast, it starred the three Kryptonians, General Zod (Terence Stamp), Non (Jack O'Halloran), and Ursa (Sarah Douglas).
5. In the original 1978 "Superman" movie, who played Jor-El?

Answer: Marlon Brando

Marlon Brando received more money ($4,000,000) for his short appearance as Jor-El in "Superman" (1978) than Christopher Reeve did in the title role. For those of you not aware, four million dollars is an incredibly high movie salary for the 1970s.
6. Which of these actresses has appeared in both a Superman movie and a Superman TV show?

Answer: Annette O'Toole

As stated in an earlier question, Annette O'Toole was Lana Lang in 1983's "Superman III" and then played Martha Kent in "Smallville".
7. According to "Superman" comics, who becomes President of the United States of America?

Answer: Lex Luthor

Lex does in fact become president in the long-running comic book series! Pete Ross was his Vice-President, and briefly served as President following Luthor's impeachment, but Ross quickly resigned.
8. During the second season of "Smallville", a season one cast member dies overseas. Who played this cast member?

Answer: Eric Johnson

Eric Johnson played Whitney Fordman. The producers, as well as many fans of the show, concluded that he was not helping the plot move along smoothly, and his departure made way for the relationship between Clark and Lana to blossom.
9. "Superman" and all related characters are trademarks of what company?

Answer: DC Comics

DC Comics' "Superman" was created by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster.
10. In "Smallville", Clark is exposed to kryptonite in his teenage years, but in "Lois & Clark," he doesn't discover it until he moves to Metropolis.

Answer: True

This is one of many discrepancies shown between all the different Superman sources. As long as they are all generally tied towards the original comic book in some way, it seems hard to care!
11. Which of these was NOT one of the effects of red kryptonite on "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman"?

Answer: It made Superman ruthless and evil

Red kryptonite had three different effects on "Lois & Clark". In its first appearance, it made Superman apathetic, meaning he just didn't care, to which he just let bank robbers rob and thieves steal, while he laid back and talked to blondes in skimpy dresses.

The second appearance of red kryptonite was brought in the form of a kryptonite laser gun, which was to be shot at Superman, but got aimed towards Lois. Superman detected the beam the second it went off, and covered Lois up instantly, which allowed for the power transfer. During its third appearance, his powers became amplified to 700% of their usual strength, which brought about complications. Clark couldn't touch things without breaking them, couldn't heat food without burning it to a crisp, and couldn't hug Lois because his 700% hug left her with bruises aplenty.
12. What was the name of Lex Luthor's bumbling aide in the first two "Superman" movies?

Answer: Otis

Otis, who was played by Ned Beatty, went on to star in such movies as "The Incredible Shrinking Woman" with Lily Tomlin, and "Stroker Ace" with Burt Reynolds.
13. In "Lois & Clark", what is the name of the President of the United States?

Answer: President Garner

The character of President Garner was played by Fred Willard, and was shown a few times.
14. Which of these Superman-related actresses dated Pierre Trudeau, a former Prime Minister of Canada?

Answer: Margot Kidder

Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in all four "Superman" movies, is from Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada.
15. Who is Joe Shuster?

Answer: Co-creator of the "Superman" fame

Joe Shuster was the original artist of the Superman comic strips, along with Jerry Siegel, who did the writing. Both got jobs with DC-National (which is now DC Comics), which in 1939 decided to give "Superman" his own comic, titled "Action Comics". Needless to say, it was an instant hit.
16. The classic score of the "Superman" movies was made by a musical mastermind. This talented individual also did famous scores for "Schindler's List", "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial", and "Star Wars". Who is he?

Answer: John Williams

John Williams won Oscars for all three of the movies mentioned in the question. He has also been nominated for Oscars for "Superman", "Catch Me If You Can", "Artificial Intelligence: AI", "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", "Saving Private Ryan", "Home Alone", "Raiders of the Lost Ark", and much, much more.
17. Clark's father in "Smallville" is famous for his role on what popular 1980s television show?

Answer: The Dukes of Hazzard

John Schneider, who plays Jonathan Kent on "Smallville", is famous for his role as Bo Duke on "The Dukes of Hazzard", which aired from 1979 to 1985. In the season one episode of "Smallville" that is entitled "Nicodemus", you can spot Mr. Schneider singing along to the original theme song of "The Dukes of Hazzard", which is a delightful quirk for any "Smallville" fans who were around in that day.
18. What is the name of the man in "Superman III" who creates synthetic kryptonite designed to kill Superman?

Answer: Gus Gorman

"Superman III" is based around a wealthy businessman, Ross Webster, who discovers the hidden talents of Gus Gorman, a mischievous computer genius. Gus creates a synthetic kryptonite which fails to kill Superman, but it turns him into an evil incarnation of his former self.
19. Which of these actors from the famous "Superman" movies provided the voice of Jor-El during the two-part season two finale of "Smallville"?

Answer: Terence Stamp

Terence Stamp, who played General Zod in the first two "Superman" movies, did indeed provide the voice of Jor-El, who spoke through Clark's spaceship.
20. In "Lois & Clark", a famous author appears during season two, along with his famous machine, which is used multiple times throughout the show. Which of these is NOT a book by the same author?

Answer: Nineteen Eighty-Four

The famed author is none other than H.G. Wells, who wrote "The Time Machine" in 1895. "The Invisible Man" (1897) and "The War of the Worlds" (1898) were his two other famed pieces of literature. He made many others, but those three were his true successes. For those interested, "1984" is an incredibly famous book by George Orwell. Well, that's it! Thanks for playing! Hope you enjoyed it!
