Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Barbadian singer and actress followed up her success with fragrances, "Reb'l Fleur" and "Rebelle" with "Nude" in 2012?

Answer: Rihanna

"Rihanna, nude" is a phrase that has often crossed my mind but I never expected to find it in a bottle. The lady herself said of the scent, that it was a more personal blend than its predecessors and encouraged women to "make sure you smell sexy, especially naked, this fall."
2. "A fragrance designed for the young, ambitious and daring men, who have no boundaries to their dreams", was the tagline for "414" from which cricket star?

Answer: Wasim Akram

The tagline continued to assert the fragrance was aimed at men "who are determined and confident about reaching their goals in life". All this from a bottle! Sign me up. Apparently the fragrance " begins with the crisp citrus note of Italian bergamot touched by the Mediterranean Sea wind woven with juicy green fruity notes perfectly balanced, giving a unique top note" and the description continues from there, getting ever more poetic, more poetic than one would expect a hairy world class sportsman to ever be. Akram was a left-arm fast bowler for Pakistan, and is rightly regarded as one of the best bowlers ever, playing for his country between 1984 and 2003.

The name "414" refers to the number of wickets he took in his test career.
3. In 2011, singer Katy Perry released a feline named fragrance. What was it called?

Answer: Meow

"Meow" was her follow up to "Purr" which had been released the previous year. It was described as edible by Perry and gave off scents of pear, honeysuckle and vanilla. You would expect someone who writes lyrics for a living to to able to continue with the cat theme, but apparently these two were her limit as her next fragrance was "Killer Queen" in 2013.
4. With hints of pink pepper, Moroccan rose and tonka bean, "Glamazon" was launched in 2013 by which star?

Answer: RuPaul

I have absolutely no idea what a pink pepper or a tonka bean is, but if you want to be both glamorous and fierce at the same time, then this apparently, is the fragrance for you. RuPaul said, "I am committed to helping the world look and smell more beautiful", so who knows, pretty soon we could all be going to the pub or standing in the mosh pit smelling like a tonka bean.
5. Which fan of Vancouver Canucks ice hockey team, and part owner of the Vancouver Giants ice hockey team released the fragrance "By Invitation" in 2016?

Answer: Michael Bublé

Michael Bublé, the songwriter behind hits such as "Home" (2005), written for then girlfriend, Debbie Timuss, "Everything" (2007), written for then girlfriend Emily Blunt and "Haven't Met You Yet" (2009), written for then girlfriend Luisana Lopilato, has also found time to create fragrances. "By Invitation" has a scent of praline according to ladies that use it, and was followed by Bublé creations "Peony Noir", "Rose Gold" and "Signature", all in 2018.
6. Which singer named her fragrance "Frankie" because it is flirtatious and sexy, like her step-brother?

Answer: Ariana Grande

Grande's fragrance has sweet zests of apricot and pear, which I have to admit, whenever I smell them in a fruit bowl have never made me feel either flirtatious or sexy, but the combination seemed to work for sales of "Frankie". This was her follow up to her 2015 fragrance debut "Ari", which has a marshmallow scent.
7. As long ago as 1997, which actor released a fragrance called "Diavolo"? By 2004, he was appearing on our screens as a Zorro-based cat.

Answer: Antonio Banderas

Banderas has delivered some of his most quoted lines while playing Puss In Boots, in the "Shrek 2" (2004), "Shrek the Third" (2007), "Shrek Forever After" (2010) and the spin off movie, "Puss In Boots" (2011). He is an old hand now at the fragrance game, with Mediterraneo, Spirit, Spirit for Women, Antonio for Men and Blue Seduction all being best sellers.
8. One of the most successful celebrity fragrances was the launch of "Someday" in 2011 which grossed over $3 million in under three weeks. Whose fragrance was this?

Answer: Justin Bieber

Bieber seems to be able to make every venture he undertakes a success with fragrances "Girlfriend" (2012) and "The Key" (2013) both selling in huge numbers as well. Add to that, his line of nail polish which sold over a million bottles in less than two months and who needs a singing career?
9. When Beyonce launched the fragrance "Heat" in 2010, she also released a cover version of which song to tie in with it?

Answer: Fever

"Fever" was originally recorded by Little Willie John in 1956, but the most loved version is that of Peggy Lee from 1958, although it has been covered by many other artists including The Kingsmen, Elvis Presley, Madonna and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead. Beyonce continued to raise the heat, with future fragrances named Heat Rush (a daytime fragrance), Midnight Heat (a night fragrance), Heat Wild Orchid, (a floral version) and Heat Kissed (a romantic version).
10. Graphic novel writer Neil Gaiman is responsible for which of these fragrances?

Answer: Lemon-Scented Sticky Bat

Made in partnership with Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab, this fragrance may have a strange name, but that is no less strange than the inspiration for it. Apparently, Gaiman came downstairs one morning to find a bat, which had flown in through an open window, stuck to an adhesive fly killing strip, hence a lemon scented sticky bat.

As one would hope, the scent is more lemon than bat, with some users likening it to "Lemonheads" candy. Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs also make fragrances such as "Schrodinger's Cat", "Blood Kiss" and "Jazz Funeral".
