Del originally appeared in the AWA in 1989 as The Trooper. At the time, the AWA had a weekly spot on ESPN. The AWA folded in 1990.

Del wrestled as a cop under the name The Trooper. Many compare his gimmick to a "face" Big Boss Man. Del the Funky Homosapien is a musician.

The two beat Destruction Crew shortly before the organization folded in 1990. DJ died shortly thereafter in a motorcycle accident.
