Marko is the stepbrother of Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men. His father, Kurt, was physically abusive toward young Cain.

Answer: Korean War

Marko originally found the gem in a long-lost cave during the Korean War. Having been sent to military school, Cain served in the Army alongside his stepbrother.

Juggernaut and "Black" Tom Cassidy were often a team, pairing up to fight the X-Men again and again. They eventually parted ways when the Juggernaut decided to go straight.
