Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Magneto has the power to control what element?

Answer: metal

As the name implies, Magneto has the power to control natural and artificial magnetic fields, which grants him nearly endless power over all things metallic. Guns, tanks, planes, etc. are powerless against him.
2. This X-Man has the ability to spawn portals to teleport objects and people virtually anywhere. Who is he/she?

Answer: Blink

Blink can theoretically transport someone as far as the moon with her portals. Cable has telpathic/telekinetic abilities. Nightcrawler can teleport himself and anything in contact with him, but cannot create free-standing portals, and his range is limited to his line of sight (he can teleport farther, but it is dangerous for him). Pipeline cannot create portals or teleport, however he has the ability to transform matter into digital data (allowing them to be transferred over phone lines and such), and then reassemble the data into matter.
3. Wolverine's mutant power is an indestructible adamantium skeleton.

Answer: False

Wolverine's mutant abilities are super-sensitive senses, increased physical strength and the power to heal wounds quickly. The adamantium skeleton was implanted in Wolverine as part of the "Weapon X" experement to create the perfect soldier (he was able to survive the procedure due to his healing powers), he was not born with them.
4. Which of the following mutants does NOT have some mutant ability relating to luck and probabilities?

Answer: White Queen

White Queen has no power over probablity. Longshot has a kind of "good luck" ability, allowing him to affect events and have things go his way. Roulette has essentially the same power, only she can bring about good OR bad luck for a given target. Scarlet Witch controls "hexes" which affect probability, making highly unlikely events more probable.
5. This X-Man has the power to absorb and store any form energy, which he/she can then release at will.

Answer: Bishop

Bishop is basically a walking battery, with the power to gather and contain all kinds of energy (even psionic), which he can discharge through his body. Gambit cannot absorb or store energy, he actually generates energy and charges inanimate objects with it (such as his trusty playing cards). Sunfire can only absord solar or nuclear energy. Rogue cannot absorb all energies, only drain a person's lifeforce, and can neither store nor release it (she can also sap any mutant's powers through direct contact).
6. Which of the following can NOT read minds?

Answer: Magneto

Of course, Prof. X is a highly powerful, highly disciplined telepath with the ability to link simultaneously with several minds at tremendous distances. Jean Grey, also among the most powerful telepaths, has far less control over her full powers and can safely use lower-level telepathy. Psylocke, whose main power involved making "weapons" out of psychic energy, such as her trademark psychic spike.

She does, however, possess a certain degree of telepathic abilities as well. Magneto has no power over the minds of others, in fact his helmet is designed specifically to block any mental/psionic energy, so even if he did have some sort of mental powers, they would be nullified.
7. This evil mutant has the ability to release a deadly virus from his body. Who is he?

Answer: Omega Red

Omega Red is one scary SOB. First of all, he has the ability to secrete a kind of spore-based virus that can kill all but he most resistant human or mutant. He also controls retractible, indestructible metallic tendrils (made of "carbonadium", another imaginary element dreamed up for the comics).

He is also a very sick individual who gets his kicks maiming and killing for any reason or none at all, and he also has a personal grudge with Wolverine. Deathbird just has a really scary name, but her only true mutant ability is the capacity for flight. Pestilence of the Morlocks also had the ability to make a person ill, but not enough to kill. Famine has the ability to impact a person's metabolism, causing their bodies to starve.
8. The following characters have one thing in common: they have no powers in and of themselves, only the ability to influence other mutants' powers. Which does NOT belong?

Answer: Jean Grey

Ricochet can turn a mutant's powers against themselves. Rogue can absorb and control another mutant's power (for example, she can heal super fast if she touches Wolverine). Leech's mutation causes him to effectively nullify any mutant's abilities, rendering them powerless.
Jean Grey's powers have no relation to any other mutants' powers.
9. This X-Man had the ability to invent and build any kind of object or machine he could think of. What was his name?

Answer: Forge

Forge is an inventor extraordinaire, capable of conceiving and creating any kind of machine his imagination can conjur up, as well as repair any technology. He used this ability to create mechanical limbs to replace those he lost in Vietnam.
10. Beast was born covered in blue fur.

Answer: False

Hank McCoy (as his friends and family know him) was born with unusually large hands and feet, as well as advanced strength and speed. He did not turn blue until he started experementing with a particular chemical compound while working for the Brand Corporation. Beast is also naturally gifted with tremendous intelligence, and would eventually become one of the world's experts on mutation, as well as the X-Men's resident scholar.
11. This mutant is naturally impervious to Cyclops' optic blasts.

Answer: Havok

Havok is in fact Cyclops' brother, and has a somewhat similar ability to release plasma blasts (by gathering some form of energy from the air), although Havok can do so from his entire body, not just his eyes. Also, contrary to Cyclops, Havok has some control over his power.

The the two brothers are immune to each other's powers, so Havok can withstand energy blasts from Cyclops and vice-versa.
12. The following mutants can all attack enemies with light. Which is not one of these?

Answer: Arclight

Dazzler can transform any sound into light and channel it at any target. Shard can turn actual matter into light. The evil mutant Whiteout generates her own blinding light to stun enemies. Arclight's ability has nothing to do with light; her power is to project shock waves.
13. All but one of the following mutants can reproduce another mutant's power in him/herself without direct contact. Which can not?

Answer: Rogue

Synch and Mimic can both take on the powers of any mutant in their immediate vicinity merely by proxy. Copycat is a metamorph (shapeshifter) who can copy anyone all the way down to the molecular-genetic level, which allows her to manifest their mutant powers naturally. Rogue needs to be touching a mutant directly to gain any of their powers.
14. What was the "New Mutant" Cypher's ability?

Answer: A natural understanding of all languages.

Cypher (who died taking a bullet for another character, Wolfsbane) had the innate ability to understand any language, whether human, alien or electronic. He had no physical powers of any kind, so he wasn't much of a fighter.
15. What mutant ability does Magneto's son Quicksilver have?

Answer: super speed

Quicksilver is blindingly fast, and can't stand moving at regular people's pace. He was recruited to Magneto's team along with his sister Scarlet Witch, not knowing at the time he was their father. No he doesn't have any of his dad's powers, and his name has no connection to mercury or liquid metal.
