Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was Speed known as when he was adventuring?

Answer: Thomas Shepherd

Clint Barton is best known as the archer Hawkeye, but Speed's real name is Thomas Shepherd. He was raised as an only child, although Wiccan, also known as Billy Kaplan, is his brother.
2. Speed first appeared in the tenth issue of "Young Avengers".

Answer: True

While he appeared first in the tenth issue of the series, he did not adopt a superheroic moniker and begin fighting crime until the twelfth issue. He looks similar to the superhero Quicksilver.
3. When the Young Avengers first encountered Speed, where was he?

Answer: A detainment facility

Although Kate Bishop described the place as a juvenile hall, the guards were heavily armored and carried serious weaponry. Speed was held there because he vaporized his school, although he claimed that he had been locked up for months as experiments were carried out.
4. Why did the Young Avengers recruit Speed?

Answer: The team needed to rescue Hulkling.

Hulkling is a Kree/Skrull child who can change his shape and is amazingly strong. He began a romantic relationship with his teammate Wiccan.
5. Where is Speed from?

Answer: Springfield, New Jersey

Speed is from Springfield, New Jersey. Red Hook is the hometown of filmmaker Kevin Smith, and Palmdale is where the rapper Afroman spent some of his childhood.
6. Who is Speed's original mother?

Answer: Wanda Maximoff

The Vision revealed that Wanda, also known as the Scarlet Witch, was the mother of Wiccan and Speed. While Wiccan accepts this as fact, Speed is a tad more skeptical.

The Scarlet Witch used fragments of the demon Mephisto's soul to have twin sons, who were eventually reabsorbed by Mephisto. The souls were later reincarnated as Speed and Wiccan
7. Captain America once mistook Speed for Hulkling.

Answer: False

Cap believed that Speed and Wiccan were the same person, not Speed and Hulkling. It's an understandable mistake, as Speed and Wiccan are brothers.
8. In the twelfth issue of "Young Avengers", who motivates Speed to kill some Skrull soldiers?

Answer: Wolverine

When Wolverine explains that Skrulls can recover from mortal wounds, Speed feels no remorse in killing them. This, of course, gains Wolverine's respect.
9. In the miniseries "Young Avengers/Runaways", whom does Speed impress with his powers?

Answer: Molly Hayes

While the two teams are congregating at the Hostel, Speed uses his powers to vibrate a rock so much that it explodes, delighting superstrong Molly Hayes, the youngest member of the Runaways.
10. Speed cannot run faster than the speed of sound.

Answer: False

Speed's maximum speed is unknown, but he can indeed surpass the speed of sound. Under ideal conditions, sound travels around 344 miles per second.
