Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which 'devilish' boss, created by Lauren Weisberger, insists on always having a soft cheese Danish pastry and sausage links for breakfast, and ribeye steak for lunch?

Answer: Miranda Priestly

Although 'The Devil Wears Prada' was adapted into a film in 2006, with Meryl Streep as nightmare magazine editor Miranda Priestly, it is Lauren Weisberger's book which details Miranda's eating habits. Andrea Sachs, the narrator, has to fetch Miranda's breakfast and lunch as part of her daily routine. Miranda's breakfast consists of four slices of bacon, a soft cheese Danish, two sausage links and a tall latte with two raw sugars. Because Miranda insists on her food being hot, Andrea often has to throw the food out and keep ordering until Miranda arrives in the office.

Her lunch is also always the same: a ribeye steak, two large baked potatoes, eight asparagus tips, a side container of mashed potatoes with cream and butter, and a gravy boat full of butter. Unlike the ribeye steaks pictured here, Miranda likes hers rare and is greatly displeased when the restaurant offer her a filet steak instead on one occasion.

The staff at 'Runway' speculate that she either has an incredible metabolism or is permanently on the Atkins Diet.
2. Cowabunga, dudes! Which '80s cartoon and comic characters all shared a love of pizza?

Answer: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Perhaps it's because they're all named after Italian artists, or because creators Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird ate it while working on the original comics, but the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were all partial to pizza, especially 'party dude' Michelangelo (who also invented pizza milkshake in the 2012 series!) Pizza was also popular with teenagers in the '80s. Pizza Hut did a tie-in for the 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' in 2014, offering limited edition Cheesy Bites pizzas with a different topping for each turtle: onions, mushrooms, black olives and green peppers for Leonardo; chicken, mushrooms, green peppers and tomatoes for Donatello; pepperoni, Italian sausage, bacon and beef for Raphael; and pepperoni, ham, pineapple and jalapeños for Michelangelo.

It should be noted that the pizza obsession comes from the original '80s cartoon series, and has stuck ever since; in the comics, the Turtles' diet was less specific.
3. Which group of adventurous children, created by Enid Blyton, are often shown drinking ginger beer (but not 'lashings' of it, contrary to popular belief)?

Answer: The Famous Five

Many of the children in Enid Blyton's adventure books were depicted drinking ginger beer, but it is most associated with Julian, Dick, George (and her beloved dog Timmy) and Anne, aka the Famous Five. During their outdoor adventures, the gang would often pack picnics or get food from friendly farmers' wives; staple 'Famous Five' foods included tongue, boiled eggs, fresh lettuces, tomatoes and other vegetables, sardines, tinned fruit and that '50s staple, condensed milk.

Although the phrase 'lashings of ginger beer' is associated with the 'Famous Five' books, Blyton never actually used it.

It actually comes from 'Five Go Mad in Dorset', a parody film by the Comic Strip.
4. The Doctor in 'Doctor Who' has multiple favourite foods, depending on his/her incarnation, but which Doctor always carried a bag of jelly babies with him? (Perhaps he hid them in his scarf.)

Answer: The Fourth Doctor

Jelly babies, originally known as Peace Babies after being launched at the end of the First World War, are a type of British jelly sweet with a vaguely humanoid shape, dusted with sugar. A chocolate variant also exists. The Fourth Doctor, played by Tom Baker, loved jelly babies and always had a packet or two on him, and would offer them to all and sundry.

In American versions of 'Doctor Who' novelisations, jelly babies were initially changed to jelly beans. As for other Doctors, the Eleventh Doctor liked the gruesome combination of fish fingers and custard, the Tenth Doctor loved bananas (and claimed to have invented the banana daiquiri), and the Fifth Doctor often carried a stick of celery around with him, to act as a detector for gases he was allergic to (apparently they turned celery purple).
5. Which friendly bear, created by Michael Bond and played by Ben Whishaw in a 2014 film, loved his marmalade sandwiches and often kept them under his hat?

Answer: Paddington

Darkest Peru's most famous fictional son always has 'emergency' marmalade sandwiches handy, either under his big red hat or in his suitcase, on the advice of his Uncle Pastuzo. According to 'Paddington' lore, marmalade was introduced to the bears of Darkest Peru (and yes, bears do live in Peru in real life) by explorer Montgomery Clyde, who gave them the recipe. Paddington's Aunt Lucy makes the best marmalade in the world, according to the bear himself.

When he moved to London, he gave the recipe to the Brown family and they adopted the custom of Marmalade Day in their house.

In the second 'Paddington' film, Paddington gives the recipe to the cooks in the prison kitchen. Marmalade company Robertson's featured Paddington on limited edition labels for their Golden Shred marmalade.
6. James Bond liked his Martinis shaken, not stirred, but - according to the books by Ian Fleming - how did he like his eggs?

Answer: Scrambled

When you think of James Bond, asking for a Martini - shaken, not stirred - will no doubt spring to mind, but Bond also loved scrambled eggs, with breakfast being his favourite meal of the day. The short story '007 in New York' even has a recipe for Scrambled Eggs 'James Bond'. Bond liked his scrambled eggs garnished with chives or 'fines herbes'. Fleming would often write about meals in great and mouthwatering detail, such as the crabs in 'Goldfinger', the breakfast of exotic fruit (and scrambled eggs!) in 'Live and Let Die', and toast with heather honey, strawberry jam and marmalade in 'From Russia With Love'.
7. Which character in the Netflix horror/drama series 'Stranger Things' developed a taste for Eggo toaster waffles?

Answer: Eleven

Eggo is a brand of toaster waffle marketed by Kellogg's. Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), real name Jane Ives, is a girl with the power of telekinesis, who was stolen away from her mother and kept in a lab to develop her abilities. Although she is mute at first, she gradually learns to talk after hanging out with Will Byers and his friends, and is adopted by policeman Jim Hopper, taking his surname.

She develops a liking for Eggos after Mike gives her one for breakfast, and when she goes missing, Hopper leaves boxes in the woods for her.

After an argument in Series 2, Hopper punishes Eleven by refusing to let her have Eggos for a week. In real life, the brand jumped on board the 'Stranger Things' bandwagon with '80s-style retro adverts. (Brown's favourite Eggo flavour, incidentally, is blueberry.)
8. Which video game character, rather surprisingly, is a lover of chilli dogs? (Perhaps he burns them off with all that running...)

Answer: Sonic the Hedgehog

Sonic the Hedgehog's love of chilli dogs originates from 'The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog', a '90s animated series in which Sonic was voiced by Jaleel 'Urkel' White. Later Sonic games took Sonic's fondness for chilli dogs and ran with it; the 'Sonic Advance 3' manual mentioned that Sonic's favourite food was chilli dogs, they could be bought at several shops in 'Sonic Unleashed', and are collectible items in 'Sonic and the Black Knight'. 'Sonic Unleashed' also featured a toxic black variant called an Egg Dog, which was only available in the Eggshop in Eggmanland, and a wide variety of chilli dogs sold by a chain called Don Fachio, such as pigs in blankets or ketchup and mustard.

In the 'Archie' comics, Sonic's uncle Chuck ran a chilli dog shop in his spare time.
9. When not beating up Roman soldiers, which comic character could often be found hunting - and eating - wild boar?

Answer: Obelix

Asterix's best mate has been shown to eat pretty much anything, including a poisoned cake, but wild boar are his favourite food, and whenever the Gauls are shown feasting at the end of an 'Asterix' book, Obelix will almost always be depicted chowing down on a whole roast one at one end of the table.

His little white dog Dogmatix (Idéfix in French) accompanied him on hunts. Although wild boar are native to France, they were not a staple food for the Gauls and if wild boar bones were found at Celtic burial sites, they were more likely to be sacrifices than killed for food (although to be fair, Asterix is not known for its historical accuracy!) Ironically, Obelix's creator, Rene Goscinny, was Jewish and could not eat boar for religious reasons, as many 'Asterix' fans found after offering it to him as a meal.
10. In 'Star Trek: The Next Generation', which member of the crew loved desserts, especially if they were chocolate ones?

Answer: Deanna Troi

Although 'Enterprise' counsellor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) had a sweet tooth in general, chocolate was her favourite food and she was something of a chocolate expert, teaching Commander Riker how to properly eat and appreciate it. She would often order desserts at the bar in Ten Forward, the 'Enterprise' recreation area, especially when she was in a bad mood. (Sirtis did not actually eat the chocolate and spat it out after takes, partly because she didn't want to gain weight and partly because it often melted under the set lights.) Ktarian chocolate puffs, large puddings made with seventeen different types of chocolate, were one of her favourite desserts.

As for other members of the crew, Captain Jean-Luc Picard was partial to Earl Grey tea, and Chief of Security Worf loved prune juice and his adopted mother's Rokeg blood pie, a traditional Klingon recipe.
