Question 1 of 5
1. This is a very basic trick, where your legs are hooked over the bar. To catch, you let go with your hands and look for the catcher. When they grab your hands, you would let go with your knees. Catch! What is this trick? Hint

Question 2 of 5
2. For the first position of this trick, you put both legs through your hands and rest them lightly on the bar. When they call, "Final Position!" you straighten your back. You should be in a straight line, except for some curvature in the knees and legs. This trick is the French word for "board". What trick am I talking about? Hint

Question 3 of 5
3. This is a trick where you pull your entire body over the bar, until you are above it and resting on it with your hands. To catch, you bend your arms and push, grabbing the catcher's hands on the way down. Catch! What trick am I talking about? Hint

Question 4 of 5
4. There is a different way to catch than just by your hands. One way is for you to swing out as normal, and the catcher grabs your legs. You swing out and back, then twist to grab the bar you started on. What kind of catch am I talking about? Hint

Question 5 of 5
5. This trick is normally for ladies. The position that you should achieve is the splits. (Hopefully) Your legs would be inside your hands. You catch the same way as in bird's nest or plange. You also return the same way. What trick am I talking about? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This is a very basic trick, where your legs are hooked over the bar. To catch, you let go with your hands and look for the catcher. When they grab your hands, you would let go with your knees. Catch! What is this trick?

Answer: Knee-hang

Another variation of this trick for the less supple is called the hocks-off. In that, instead of hooking your knees and letting go of your hands, you put your legs in the same position as knee hang, but keep your hands on the bar. When you swing back for the catch, the catcher says, "Hep!" and you let go and reach for the catcher's hands. Catch!
2. For the first position of this trick, you put both legs through your hands and rest them lightly on the bar. When they call, "Final Position!" you straighten your back. You should be in a straight line, except for some curvature in the knees and legs. This trick is the French word for "board". What trick am I talking about?

Answer: Plange

This trick can also be done as a back end trick after doing a "swing". Swing is a special type of trick where you learn the right kicks and pushes to keep your swing on the bar going higher and higher. Many tricks can be done in back end, like splits, pullover, and birds nest. To catch a plange, you wait for the catcher's, "Hep!", then let go and catch their hands. Catch!
3. This is a trick where you pull your entire body over the bar, until you are above it and resting on it with your hands. To catch, you bend your arms and push, grabbing the catcher's hands on the way down. Catch! What trick am I talking about?

Answer: Pullover

I talked about backend tricks in the info at the end of the last question. To do a pullover at the back end, you do something called an uprise. Instead of pulling all the way over, you just use your momentum to push your legs out a little and up, forcing your body to the same position it would be in even if you had done a pullover. You catch the same way as a regular pullover.

Another way to catch is pushing off and doing a flip before catching. It looks VERY cool. This kind of catch is called a forward over.
4. There is a different way to catch than just by your hands. One way is for you to swing out as normal, and the catcher grabs your legs. You swing out and back, then twist to grab the bar you started on. What kind of catch am I talking about?

Answer: Legs Catch

The other way to catch besides hand to hand is by the catcher using a catch bar. This only happens when you would do a reverse trick, such as reverse knee hang or cutaway. You have to use a bar because the catcher's hands and yours are on opposite sides, making it impossible to catch without the bar. To return this, you do not need to twist at all, just push hard enough to fly back up to the bar. Catch, and return!
5. This trick is normally for ladies. The position that you should achieve is the splits. (Hopefully) Your legs would be inside your hands. You catch the same way as in bird's nest or plange. You also return the same way. What trick am I talking about?

Answer: Splits

Another trick especially for ladies is the straddle whip. In this, you start off with your hands in the middle of the bar, and put your legs in a straddle around them. The second position is just to look up so you will hopefully see the catcher. To catch you let go and catch the catcher's hands. You return the same way as splits, plange, and bird's nest.

Many of these tricks seem to have a lot in common. Not really a coincidence. One other variation of the whip is a plain whip, with legs in a pike between the hands. I hope you enjoyed my quiz!
