Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There is no disputing the fact that this man's nickname was undeniably apt, and he was most certainly larger than life. He quite literally towered above those around him, but what was the nickname of this modern version of Goliath?

Answer: Andre the Giant

Andre the Giant, who was billed at four inches over seven foot, really was a sight to behold. The Frenchman's stature made him so recognisable, even to people with no interest in wrestling, that he became well known as "The Eighth Wonder of the World".

The man frequently introduced as being from "Grenoble in the French Alps" made his wrestling debut in 1963 and won many championship belts before his retirement in 1992, perhaps most notably the WWF Championship.
2. Despite his hard exterior, Dwayne Johnson was once dubbed the "People's Champ". He was arguably better known for a different moniker however, a nickname that served him well both inside and outside the ring. What was this nickname, which also followed him into the world of acting?

Answer: The Rock

Despite his best efforts at being a film star, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is not going to be best remembered for his rather limp filmic output but what he will be known for is his wrestling ability. The charismatic Johnson, who popularised the rather peculiar "People's Elbow", was well acquainted with the WWF/WWE Championship belt having won it seven times in the period 1998-2002. Eleven years later, at the 2013 edition of 'Royal Rumble' held in Phoenix, Arizona, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson beat CM Punk to win the belt for an eighth time.
3. What wrestling nickname, which was incredibly difficult to live up to, was Curt Hennig associated with?

Answer: Mr. Perfect

Curt Hennig, of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, held himself in very high esteem, so high that his career thrived under the "Mr. Perfect" moniker. His finishing move, the "Perfect-Plex", helped him on his way to winning the WWF Intercontinental Championship on two separate occasions. In 2003, Curt Hennig sadly became yet another wrestler to die a drugs-related death; he was 44 years old.
4. Like his 'X-Men' namesake, professional wrestler, Dean Malenko, was cool all the way. By what nickname was he known during his professional wrestling career?

Answer: The Iceman

Both Dean Malenko and the 'X-Men's Iceman could be considered cool customers but that is where the similarity ends; the latter could, being a superhero, turn himself into ice whereas the former was limited by reality and so had to make do with causing opponents maximum discomfort in the wrestling ring! Malenko made his name in the early 1980s and continued to be active throughout the nineties. "The Iceman" made use of a number of signature moves which included the "Boston Crab" and the "Surfboard" before finishing with the "Texas Cloverleaf". Malenko was twice a winner of the WWF's Light Heavyweight Championship, beating the then title holder Essa Rios to win it on the first occasion and defeating Scotty 2 Hotty to lift the belt a second time.
5. Barry Windham has long been associated with a rather foreboding nickname, which may well have once terrified married women everywhere. What was this eerie alias?

Answer: The Widowmaker

Barry Windham's nickname of "The Widowmaker" certainly gives one food for thought! In addition to this macabre moniker, Windham was known by ring names including "The Stalker" and "Blackjack Windham". Most of his career was spent with the National Wrestling Alliance and World Championship Wrestling franchises, though he did spend some time with the World Wrestling Federation in the 1980s and 1990s.

In his relatively short time with the World Wrestling Federation, "The Widowmaker" twice won the franchise's Tag Team Championship; this was achieved with the same partner on both occasions, Mike Rotunda.
6. Brodus Clay had a nickname that could be perceived as hip, while also stirring up images of woolly mammoths and cavemen. With this in mind, what then was this one-time bodyguard's memorable nickname?

Answer: The Funkasaurus

Brodus Clay had perhaps one of the best nicknames in the modern history of wrestling despite it being something of a gimmick. Brodus "The Funkasaurus" Clay, who was at times billed from "Planet Funk", even named some of his finishing moves in a funky manner; he utilised the "Running Crossbody" which he renamed "Ah Funk It!". Clay picked up the 2012 Slammy for Best Dancer of the Year, an award handed out as a bit of fun.
7. Some wrestlers stuck around the scene for so long that they became associated with more than one nickname. Which wrestler, who appeared to like a certain part of the English alphabet, was known as both "The Cerebral Assassin" and "The Game"?

Answer: Triple H

Throughout the last years of the WWF era and during the early years of the WWE era, it is indisputable that Triple H was one of the faces of the wrestling franchise that was being broadcast all over the world. Paul Michael Levesque, who had seemingly taken a liking to the letter 'h' when he came up with his character name of Hunter Hearst Helmsley (Triple H), utilised the "Double Underhook Facebuster" as his finisher; he would call this move the "Pedigree". Due to his longevity, "The Cerebral Assassin" won pretty much everything there was to win at the WWF/WWE including the WWF/WWE Championship, 'King of the Ring' and the 'Royal Rumble'.
8. Wrestling appeared to run in the blood of families such as the Ortons. Which of these was a nickname of the toxic-natured son of "Cowboy" Bob and the nephew of Barry O, Randy?

Answer: The Viper

Randy Orton had a variety of nicknames which encapsulated the themes of his career over the years. In his early days, he liked to think of himself as an underdog who was willing and able to knock the big boys off their pedestals; it was during this period that he was known as "The Legend Killer".

As he grew in both experience and popularity he lost the aforementioned label and rebranded himself as "The Viper" and "The Face of the WWE". At the 2013 edition of 'SummerSlam' in Los Angeles, California, Randy Orton became one of the most decorated WWE wrestlers of all time when he won the WWE Championship for a seventh time.
9. With so many people taking to the ring over the course of wrestling history, it comes as no surprise that some nicknames were not exclusively associated with a particular wrestler. Which of the following wrestlers was NOT nicknamed '(The) Nature Boy'?

Answer: Mick Foley

It appears as though '(The) Nature Boy' has long been a moniker that wrestlers have clamoured to be known by; fans of the early WWE era will be best acquainted with Ric Flair's tenure as 'The Nature Boy' but before the man billed from Charlotte, North Carolina went by this name, there was the original 'Nature Boy', Buddy Rogers. Rogers, who mastered the move known as the "Figure-Four Leglock", was active in the wrestling community during the Second World War and continued to thrill audiences until his retirement in the early 1960s. Ric Flair, who grew up watching Buddy Rogers, was inspired by the wartime 'Nature Boy' to such an extent that not only did he borrow his nickname, but he also adopted the "Figure-Four Leglock"! In addition to these two, Buddy Landel also made use of the 'Nature Boy' nickname. Mick Foley was known as "The Hardcore Legend".
10. Wrestling has never been activity just for men, a fact many of the WWF/WWE Divas employed over the years would have attested to. One such Diva was a Canadian who was so prominent in the world of wrestling entertainment that she picked up the moniker, "Toronto's Gift to the WWE". Who did this nickname refer to?

Answer: Trish Stratus

Trish "Toronto's Gift to the WWE" Stratus, whose real name was Patricia Anne Stratigias, was the cream of women's wrestling during the early 2000s at the WWF/WWE. She was popular with the crowds not only for her physical appearance but for her ability in the ring; when she defeated Lita for the WWE Women's Championship at the 2006 edition of 'Unforgiven', Trish Stratus broke the then record for the number of times an individual had won this particular belt (seven times).

It was fitting that this Championship victory, which would prove to be the last for "Canada's Greatest Export", was achieved in front of a home crowd in Toronto.
