He signed with the Green Bay Packers of the NFL, but never played a game. He spent the entire 1982 season on the team's injured reserve list with a groin problem. He returned to training camp in 1983, but was released before the regular season began.

Ray's wrestling persona was developed from his former real-life job as a corrections officer in his home state of Georgia.

The original Cuban Assassin; in the mid '70s, Acevedo was chosen by Stu Hart to be Bret Hart's opponent in Bret's professional debut in Stampede Wrestling.

In 1990, Ed was involved in a parasailing accident. His friend, who he was helping, was launched too early and hit Ed in the face with his knees. Ed required over 100 feet of wire and 32 screws to rebuild his face.
