Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which white wrestler in the WWF claimed to be from "Deepest, Darkest Africa"?

Answer: Akeem

Formerly The One Man Gang, the Akeem gimmick only lasted about 2 years. Most notably was his tag team with Big Boss Man ("The Twin Towers") and his quest to be WWF's first "African-American" World Champion.
2. Who claimed to be a "52nd degree black belt"?

Answer: John Tatum

"Hollywood" John Tatum mentioned this throughout his stint in the Global Wrestling Federation (GWF), as well as how he could do 5,000 pushups and 10,000 situps a day.
3. Who donned a mask and imitated Jake Roberts as "The Viper" in the Global Wrestling Federation (GWF)?

Answer: "Maniac" Mike Davis

Between going from a member of the Davis Brothers and playing up the "maniac" moniker, Mike Davis briefly slithered around as "The Viper". The gimmick never seemed to go anywhere.
4. What guitar-wielding bad guy entered World Championship Wrestling (WCW) solely to feud with Van Hammer?

Answer: JT Southern

JT Southern had previously worked in the American Wrestling Association (AWA) before briefly entering WCW.
5. Originally billed as a Russian, after the fall of the Soviet Union, he (not the announcers) declared he was really Lithuanian. Who is he?

Answer: Nikita Koloff

Koloff, during his 1990s stint as an ally of Sting, declared he was Lithuanian in interviews. Volkov was stated to be Lithuanian by WWF announcers long before he made mention of it. In reality, Koloff is from Minnesota. Zangiev and Hasimikov were both Olympic wrestlers, before turning pro and primarily wrestling in Japan. Both competed in the Pat O'Connor Memorial Tag Team Tournament at "Starrcade '90".
6. Mike Shaw competed as what character in Stampede (Stu Hart's promotion), and the Global Wrestling Federation (GWF)?

Answer: Makhan Singh

As Singh, Shaw played a Pakistani, part of the "Karachi Vice" clique in Stampede. This stable only had one actual Pakistani (Gama Singh). The other gimmicks were later Shaw portrayals. Grundy was the long lost brother of Solomon Grundy, primarily in Mexican promotions. Norman was a mainstay in the NWA in 1989 and independents. Booger was a short-lived WWF character.
7. Before coming to the WWF, this former International Wrestling Federation (IWF) Heavyweight Champion claimed to be from China. (This is the IWF that was based in Florida)

Answer: Mondo Kleen

Kleen later took his gimmick to the WWF as Damien Demento. The IWF also was home to a young Billy and Bart Gunn, then known as The Long Riders.
8. Col. Kirschner made a career out of playing an apartheid-supporting South African.

Answer: False

Col. DeBeers played this role, primarily in the AWA and independents. DeBeers most notable feud was with Jimmy Snuka.
9. When Tiny Lister returned to wrestling in WCW, what name did he use?

Answer: Z-Gangsta

Formerly Zeus in the WWF, Lister played the same basic gimmick under Z-Gangsta. Ultimate Solution was played by independent journeyman Jeep Swenson.
10. Kamala was billed from _________ and Abdullah the Butcher from __________.

Answer: Uganda; Sudan

Both were from North America. Kamala was billed as from "Deepest, Darkest Africa" in his second stint in the WWF. Abdullah opened a BBQ restaurant near Atlanta.
