Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Tony went shopping with $10. He bought a pack of pencils for $4.80 and then spent $1.00 on some ice-cream. How much money does he have left?

Answer: $4.20

To work this out you add what Tony bought altogether. Then you subtract it from his money. $10.00-($4.80+$1.00)=$4.20.
2. Tom has $3000. He spent 1/3 of it. How much money does he have left?

Answer: $2000

You can work this out by first dividing 3000 by 3 to get the answer of 1000, which is how much money Tom spent. Then you subtract 1000 from 3000 to get the answer of 2000, which is how much money he has now.
3. 67, 76, 85, 94, __. What number goes in the blank?

Answer: 103

The pattern is to add 9. If you add 9 to 94, you get the answer of 103.
4. Jane has to be at school at 8:30. It takes 22 minutes to get there by bus. She missed her bus at 7:58 and had to wait for the next bus at 8:06. By how many minutes is she late/early?

Answer: 2 minutes early

Since she got on the bus at 8:06 and it took 22 minutes, you simply add 22 minutes to 8:06 which is 8:28. Jane has to be at school by 8:30, so she got there 2 minutes early.
5. Kevin has $9.50. If Thomas has twice as much money as Kevin, how much does Thomas have?

Answer: $19.00

This is a multiplication problem. 9.50 x 2 = 19.
6. Ben bought 10 pencils for $3.60. How much was each pencil?

Answer: $0.36

When dividing by 10, you simply move the decimal point one digit to the left (for example, 348.0/10=34.80). If you move the decimal point one digit to the left in $3.60, you get the answer of $0.36.
7. Dan went to sleep at 9:55pm. He slept for 8 hours and 11 minutes. At what time did he wake up?

Answer: 6:06am

First go 8 hours ahead (5:55am). Then add 11 minutes which is 6:06am (remember 60 minutes is 1 hour!). That means Dan woke up at 6:06am.
8. Henry's monthly wage is $4600. How much money does he earn in a year?

Answer: $55200

You simply multiply $4600 by 12 as there are 12 months in a year.
9. Jack had $19.00 pocket money. He spent $9.00 on some books and then found a $1 coin. How much money does he have now?

Answer: $11.00

Jack had $19.00. He spent $9. He then has $10, but he found a $1 coin so he now has $11.
10. Jordan has $98 and he wants to buy a $110 video game. How much more money does he need?

Answer: $12

This is a subtraction problem: 110-98=12.
