Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In Tolkien's "The Hobbit", what are Attercop, Tomnoddy, Crazy Cob and Lazy Lob?

Answer: Spiders

Bilbo Baggins sings a song to distract the spiders so that he is able to rescue his companions. Attercop is in fact an Old English word for spider, atter meaning venom and cop meaning head.
2. According to Dr. Seuss, what sort of animal wears a hat?

Answer: Cat

Dr. Seuss wrote over 60 children's books including "Horton Hears A Hoo" and "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" as well as "Cat In The Hat". His real name was Theodore Geisel.
3. In Michael Bond's series of "Paddington" books, which country is Paddington originally from?

Answer: Peru

Peru is in South America and as the only bear that is found in South America is the Spectacled Bear, it is safe to assume that is what Paddington is. That spectacled look must be what makes him so good at giving his hard stares.
4. In J.M. Barrie's book, "Peter Pan", what did the crocodile swallow?

Answer: Alarm Clock

The crocodile also ate Captain Hook's hand after it was cut off by Peter and would like to eat the rest of him, but luckily the ticking of the alarm clock always warns Hook when the crocodile is near.
5. What was the name of the pig in Dick King-Smith's book "The Sheep Pig", also known as "The Gallant Pig"?

Answer: Babe

On Farmer Hogget's farm, Babe is taught how to herd sheep by Fly the sheep dog. He rather uniquely asks the sheep politely to move, rather than ordering them like the dogs.
6. What sort of animal are Babar, Hathi and Horton?

Answer: Elephants

The stories about Babar were written by Jean de Brunhoff, Hathi appears in Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book" (and was given the title of Colonel in Disney's movie version), while Horton was Dr. Seuss' elephant that heard a Who.
7. In the Harry Potter series of books, how many heads did Fluffy, the dog owned by Hagrid, have?

Answer: Three

In the book, Hagrid says he got Fluffy from a Greek man in a pub, but in the movie he tells Harry he got him from "an Irish fellow". Fluffy helped guard The Philosopher's Stone.
8. Who or what is Iorek Byrnison?

Answer: Bear

Iorek Byrnison is an armoured bear from Philip Pullman's series "His Dark Materials" who made his debut in "Northern Lights". Armoured bears are similar to polar bears, but have human intelligence levels. Their armour, made of iron, is their soul.
9. Which author has written about "The First Hippo On The Moon", "The Slightly Annoying Elephant" and "Boogie Bear"?

Answer: David Walliams

Walliams has written many children's books, acted on TV and in film, including in an adaptation of Charles Dickens' "Great Expectations", and is a keen swimmer. He swam The English Channel in 10 hours 34 minutes and has also swum The Strait of Gibraltar and the length of the River Thames (140 miles).
10. Acording to author Julia Donaldson, who has "terrible tusks, and terrible claws, And terrible teeth in his terrible jaws"?

Answer: The Gruffalo

He also has "knobbly knees, and turned-out toes, And a poisonous wart at the end of his nose" as well as orange eyes, a black tongue and "purple prickles all over his back."
