Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dr. Unique Merkel has arrived in Luxor to help Jim, Doris and Brenda work out the mystery of the hieroglyphs found at the Temple of Hathor. Unique is a rather unusual name (for a rather unusual lady). Her father chose the name for a reason. What is that reason, according to Unique?

Answer: She is called Unique as her father wanted her to be very special

He was certainly right! A double bass playing, flamingo pink clad blonde with petite feet is not someone you meet everyday!
2. After studying the hieroglyphs, Unique comes to the conclusion that Jim and Doris have not translated them correctly.

Answer: True

True. Jim has translated one of the hieroglyphs to mean "time" when it actually means "the unbroken light of the father". (I have made this mistake often myself!) Unfortunately, this new translation does not make matters much clearer!
3. Fortunately, Unique has great ideas and remembers a friend whom she can contact who might be able to "shed some new light" on what the hieroglyphics mean. She walks into town to "phone a friend". After several hours Unique has not returned. Why not?

Answer: She has been kidnapped by the dastardly Neptune Bone

Neptune Bone is holding Unique captive at the Old Winter Palace Hotel. This man will stop at nothing! Poor Unique.
4. Although Jim, Doris and Brenda are a little concerned about Unique's absence, they are reassured when a note arrives requesting they meet Unique at the Tomb of Sennefer. Where is this tomb located?

Answer: In the Tombs of the Nobles, south of the Valley of the Kings

These tombs are not far from Cairo Jim's campsite. There are about 400 tombs here. Important Egyptians were buried here, according to Geoffrey McSkimming, including viziers, scribes, astronomers, inspectors, governors and priests.
5. Jim and Doris enter the Tomb of Sennefer while Brenda remains outside. (She has been stuck on one of the entrance tunnels before so no-one is taking any chances this time!) What are painted on the walls of the tomb that show Sennefer's main interest during his lifetime?

Answer: Grapevines. Sennefer owned his own private vineyard.

As sunlight had barely entered the tomb since it had been discovered, the paintings still looked as fresh as when they were first painted.
6. While Jim is in the Tomb of Sennefer, Captain Neptune Bone sets off a "trigger stone" in order to trap Cairo Jim in the tomb! (What a dastardly trick!) Something begins to trickle into the tomb which will build up to potentially deadly proportions. What begins to trickle into the tomb?

Answer: Sand

Sand begins to build up in the tomb. Jim is knocked out by a particularly heavy amount and Doris, with the help of Brenda and a rope, works hard to save our hero!
7. After their interesting interlude in the Tomb of Sennefer, Cairo Jim, Brenda and Doris travel back to Luxor. What does Brenda see that worries her as they approach the city?

Answer: Glintings and flashings from a window of the Old Winter Palace Hotel

The flashings are made by a mirror reflecting the sun. They are spelling out a message in Morse code. This message says "Help". This message galvanizes our brave trio into action!
8. Cairo Jim arrives at the Old Winter Palace Hotel. Which room does he believe the signals have been coming from?

Answer: Room 316, the Agatha Christie Suite

Agatha Christie was a famous writer of detective and crime stories. Her second husband was an archaeologist. One of Agatha Christie's most well-known books is called "Death on the Nile". The signals were, in fact, made by Unique. She was kidnapped by Neptune Bone.
9. Captain Neptune Bone now has all the information he needs in order to be able to use the Transilient Sceptre of Rameses to turn objects into gold. Cairo Jim, Unique, Brenda and Doris find him and are captured in their attempts to thwart his evil plans. Neptune Bone threatens to turn them all into statues. One member of the team places themself in front of the others in order to stop Bone's threat from being carried out. Which one of our quartette is turned into a gold statue by their selfless act?

Answer: Unique

Unique becomes a unique gold statue- right down to her petite feet.
10. Due to the intervention of Doris, Neptune Bone inadvertently turns the sceptre on himself, changing part of his face, shoulder and arm to gold. Desperate to get away from the scene of his crime, Neptune Bone call outs something that causes Jim and his friends to turn away for a crucial moment. This gives Bone the chance to escape. What does he call out?

Answer: "The archaeo- metallurgist. Look! She is not gold, after all! She is returning to her normal state!"

Unfortunately, Unique was still solid gold, "defiant, petite and noble to the end" It took Jim, Doris and Brenda a long time to get over what happened - but it's amazing how a game of Racing Patience can help!

I hope you enjoyed my quiz!
