Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The first shop is called "Indigo Blue". The shopkeeper is a girl named Indigo. What is her mum's favourite colour?

Answer: Blue

Did you notice I used Indie's full name, not just her nickname? Indie's mum was told by a fortune teller that blue was her lucky colour. All her boyfriends had something blue about them. Indie's dad was called Blue!
2. You say goodbye to Indie and go into the next shop. This one is called "Lucky Star". This one has a girl and a boy running the shop. What are their names?

Answer: Cat and Mouse

Cat is the girl. Her name is short for Catrin. Mouse is short for Martin. They are girlfriend and boyfriend but is it going to last?
3. You leave the shop and go into a shop called "Scarlett". This shop has red goods in it. A girl of about twelve (who is Scarlett) is standing behind the counter. What is her oldest stepsister's name?

Answer: Holly

Scarlett is the girl's name. She also has a baby stepsister named Hazel. When the girls meet Scarlett hates Holly but Holly wants to be just like her. This happens when Scarlett's mum sends her to live with her dad and his new wife Clare and her daughter. At this point Clare is pregnant with Hazel.
4. In "Scarlett", the shop, there are postcards of a black horse in the moonlight of Ireland. What is the horse's name?

Answer: Midnight

The owner of the horse is named Kian and he is one of Scarlett's friends in Ireland. He is a complete mystery boy, even to Scarlett, for ages until after Hazel is born.
5. At last you go out of "Scarlett". You go into the next shop. It is named "Dizzy". To your surprise, there is a picture of the boy from the "Lucky Star" shop on the counter. There is a girl named Dizzy behind the counter. What is her mum's name?

Answer: Storm

Dizzy hasn't seen Storm since she was four. Then Storm turns up on Dizzy's twelfth birthday and takes her to a festival. The story unfolds there.
6. You leave the shop "Dizzy" and go into the next shop. It is named "Driftwood". There are two girls at the counter. The most sensible looking girl is named Hannah. What is her friend's name?

Answer: Joey

Joey and her little brother Mikey are adopted; she has been Hannah's best friend for years. When her parents foster an older boy, life as Hannah knows it begins to change.
7. Hannah's friend falls in love with Paul, the boy that her family fosters.

Answer: False

Joey falls in love with Hannah's brother, Kit. Hannah is the one that likes Paul a lot.
8. You leave "Driftwood". You are at the last shop. This is named "Sundae Girl". Another girl is standing behind the counter. She introduces herself as Jude. What is the problem with her mum?

Answer: Her mum is an alcoholic.

Dizzy is the one that doesn't know her mum. Jude's gran has a stroke near the end of the book and Mouse's mum is a junkie until he is about seven, when he stays with his dad at the festivals in Scotland.
9. You look around "Sundae Girl". It looks very different to the other shops. There are Elvis catsuits, bottles of whisky, and "Wizard of Oz" DVDs. What member of Jude's family wears a white catsuit?

Answer: Jude's dad

Jude's dad works by doing Elvis impersonations. He used to be in a band that was like the Beatles and he was Paul McCartney in the band. Jude was named Jude because of the Beatles song, "Hey Jude".
10. You step out of the shop and look down Cathy Cassidy Street. Suddenly, you remember you left your purse in "Scarlett". You run back in there and find Scarlett is talking to a dark-haired girl. Who is this girl that she met in Killimoor National School?

Answer: Ros

Rose is the name of Jude's mum. Ros doesn't come into "Scarlett" much. She appears on Scarlett's first day at Killimoor School, and Holly gets her to go down to the lough to meet up with Scarlett and meet Kian-except he disappears.
