2. Where was Emily taken to live after her father died?

Answer: New Moon

There had been Murrays on New Moon Farm ever since they first came from the Old Country in 1790.
3. When told to choose between her two cats, Emily decided to bring Mike to her new home.

Emily brought Saucy Sal.
4. Which of Emily's friends had a father who was a doctor?

Answer: Ilse

Dr. Burnley, Ilse's father, was often criticized for letting Ilse run around and do as she pleased.
5. What was Dean Priest called?

Answer: Jarback

Dean Priest was called "Jarback" because one shoulder was slightly higher than the other.
6. Rhoda was Emily's first true friend in the Blair Water school.

Answer: False

Although her first friend, Rhoda was only interested in being associated with the Murrays. She proved to be a false friend after Muriel Porter, who was from a rich family, came to town. Muriel was jealous that Fred Stuart claimed to like Emily, so she told Rhoda not to invite Emily to her (Rhoda's) party. As a result, Emily did not get an invitation.
7. When Emily was at Aunt Nancy's, why did she believe her room was haunted?

Answer: she heard mysterious noises

The noises Emily heard were caused by swallows in the big central chimney that went up the wall behind her bed.
8. Why did Aunt Elizabeth not approve of Teddy Kent the first time Emily mentioned being friends with him?

Answer: because Aunt Elizabeth didn't know the Kent family

Aunt Elizabeth was a proud and elitist Murray and reminded Emily that "the Murrays do not associate with every one."
9. Why did Teddy not want his mother to know that he had given Emily a picture of Blair Water painted on a cowhawk shell?

Answer: because his mother would cry

Teddy's mother was unusually possessive of her son and was jealous of any attention he gave to anyone other than herself. However, Teddy loved his mother very much and only believed she would be hurt if she found out about him giving a gift to Emily.
10. What happened to Ilse's mother?

Answer: she fell down a well

For many years, people believed Ilse's mother had run away with a lover, but in reality she had fallen down a well and couldn't get out. Her body was only discovered when Emily dreamt about her falling into the well and insisted that they go get her out.
