Answer: Russia

Alaska was bought from Russia in 1867 and became the forty-ninth state of the USA in 1959. Its state capital is Juneau and the biggest city is Anchorage. The highest mountain in North America, called Mount McKinley, is situated in Alaska.
2. David Livingstone was the first European to see the Victoria Falls, which are in which continent?

Answer: Africa

The Victoria Falls are a large waterfall on the Zambezi river on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe in Africa. Livingstone first came across them in 1855 and named them after Queen Victoria. The native name translates as 'the smoke that thunders'.

The country of Peru is situated in the Andes, one of the world's largest mountain ranges. The largest lake in south America, Lake Titicaca, is on the border of Peru and Bolivia. The capital of Peru is Lima. Poland and Portugal are both in Europe and the Philippines are in Southeast Asia.
6. The Serengeti is situated in the African country of Tanzania. What is it?

Answer: National Park

The Serengeti was chosen as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in November 2006. It is also a World Heritage Site. It is famed for its annual migration when millions of animals, including zebra, gazelles, wildebeest, buffalo and many more animals join the trek in search of fresh grazing.
7. Madrid is the capital of which European country?

Answer: Spain

Finland's capital is Helsinki and France's capital is Paris. Egypt is located in Africa and its capital is Cairo. Madrid is situated almost exactly in the middle of Spain and is also its largest city. Other cities in Spain are Barcelona and Granada.

Answer: Greenland

Erik the Red had lived in Greenland when exiled from his home in Norway. When his exile was over, he returned home long enough to convince people to move to Greenland and start a new settlement. Although he called it Greenland, it is mostly covered by ice. Greenland is one of the largest islands of the world and is offically part of the country of Denmark.
9. The Gobi desert can be found in which continent?

Answer: Asia

The Gobi desert is located in two countries, north western China and southern Mongolia. It is the fifth largest desert in the world, and it is considered to be a cold desert due to its high altitude.
10. In which country in the northern part of South America can you find the Potaro River?

Answer: Guyana

The Potaro River is 255 kilometres long and flows into the longest river in Guyana, which is called the Essequibo. Spain is in Europe and Mexico is in North America. Argentina is in the southern part of South America.
