Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I had a very large boat. Who am I?

Answer: Noah

Noah was the wonderful captain of the Ark of the animals. (Genesis 5:32-10:1)

Peter, Judas and Paul are the other foils - all are New Testament folks.
2. My name is Adam and I had a serious infestation in my Garden. What animal would this have been?

Answer: Serpent

Adam did have a huge serpent problem. (Evidently, Eve and Adam had a bit of an issue with this.) However, "The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life." (Cite Genesis 3:14, English Standard Version of the Bible.)

Moths, frogs and insects may have been an issue, but who am I to say?
3. I was cast into a den with extremely large felines but lived. Who am I?

Answer: Daniel

Wow! Daniel was blessed. According to the Bible (Daniel 6 v. 24), "The men who had falsely accused Daniel were brought in and thrown into the lions' den, along with their wives and children. And before they reached the floor of the den, the lions overpowered them and crushed all their bones." (All I can say is OUCH)

Adam, Moab and Peter avoided this ordeal.
4. I am a matriarch buried within the Cave of the Patriarchs among such female elders as Eve, Sarah and Leah. Who am I?

Answer: Rebecca

I am Rebecca - Isaac's wife and the mother of Jacob and Esau. First mentioned in the genealogy of the descendants of Nahor, Abraham's brother (Genesis 22:20-24).

Rachel and Judith are wonderful Biblical women. Basemath is one of Esau's wives. She was a daughter of Ishmael.
5. The Old Testament contains the names of many civilizations. Which is NOT one of these?

Answer: Nanites

Anakim were giants that lived near the biblical land of Cannan (Genesis 14:5-6). Emites (their name is translated as the "dreaded ones") were a powerful and strong people brought down by the Moabites (Genesis 14:5). Nanites are very small robotic devices used in various ways, often in science fiction stories (be afraid, be very, very afraid!).
6. The book of Daniel tells of three young men from Jerusalem who went to the court of Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon. They refused to bow down to his golden image and were forced to walk into a furnace. Which was NOT one?

Answer: Madrach

Madrach was not one of these martyrs. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were the three young men. According to Scripture, four figures were seen in the fires - three were bound and one was not. It is believed that the fourth was the Lord Jesus.

(Cite Daniel 3:16: before being thrust into the fire, the three replied "If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king.")
7. I am a wife of Moses. I am mentioned in a widely discussed verse of the Old Testament regarding the religious circumcision of my son. Who am I?

Answer: Zipporah

I am Zipporah. When Moses and I arrived at the inn with our child on the way to tell Pharaoh about the plagues, we had a bit of a problem regarding the Jewish ritual for baby boys. However, we sorted it out! (reference: Exodus 4:24-26.)

Rachel and Sarah were not associated with this story. Venus is a Roman goddess, and thus REALLY not a part of this history!
8. My sister Miriam and I lived in the eastern border of Egypt (Goshen). I was eventually named High Priest of the Israelites. Who am I?

Answer: Aaron

I am Aaron, brother of Moses and Miriam. I had an episode known as "Chet ha'Egel" or "The Sin of the Calf" (cite Exodus 32:4). The Golden Calf was probably not the best idea according to Scripture. I was later forgiven and named High Priest of the Israelites.
9. A very famous painter (think Sistine Chapel) painted a ceiling depiction of Adam and Eve with a serpent with a female head. According to Jewish scholars, what is the name of this creature?

Answer: Lilith

Eve was the mother of human as referenced in Genesis. Medusa and Athena are Greek mythical creatures.

Historically, Lilith was also called a vampire, succubus, eater-of-souls. In Jewish folklore, from "Alphabet of Ben Sira" onwards, Lilith becomes Adam's first wife, who was created at the same time (Rosh Hashanah) and from the same earth as Adam.

Michelangelo's beautiful "Temptation and Expulsion" is in Rome's Sistine Chapel. In this depiction, a serpent was intended to represent Lilith, Adam's first wife according to Jewish tradition.
10. Before the Passover festival, who washed people's feet in a traditional rite?

Answer: Jesus

Jesus washed the feet of his disciples before the Passover holiday to show his humility. (Refer to John 13:1-17)
