Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. It is important to eat fruit and vegetables. People who are diabetic need to be especially careful about what they eat. Among these healthy options, which one counts as a starchy food if you are a diabetic?

Answer: Potato

For diabetics, potatoes count towards carbohydrate-rich foods which are also important for a healthy body. They do not count towards the portion of fruit and vegetables but still contain plenty of nutrients. The skin, especially, is a good source of vitamin C.
2. According to the saying, what do you need to have one of a day to keep the doctor away?

Answer: Apple

So the saying goes! Apples have many vitamins and are good for you, just as all fruit and vegetables are. Apples also contain a compound called pectin which helps bind bad fats in your body so they does not get stored!
3. Which of these should you eat or drink only little of to make sure you stay healthy?

Answer: All of these.

These should be had only as treats and should not be a part of all your meals as they contain too much salt, sugar and preservatives! Excess salt, sugar and additives are bad for us and can make us sluggish!
4. Too many sweets, ice-cream and chocolates can rot your teeth. That's why sometimes when you feel like having something sweet, it's better to have some fruit instead! After what food is it NOT necessary to brush your teeth?

Answer: None of these.

Sweets contain high amounts of sugar that can eat away at your pearly whites! While it is true that fruit also contains sugars, overall they are much healthier then chocolates and sweets. It is good to brush your teeth after any meal no matter what you eat.

This ensures that nothing is left between your teeth to rot and cause decay. Remember to still brush your teeth twice a day to make sure you keep cavities away!
5. Many kinds of food we eat contain sugar. "Cane sugar" comes from a plant called sugar cane.

Answer: True

People in Asia even juice this tall, thin, stick-looking plant and the juice is a milky green with a wonderful sweet flavour!
6. Because fruit is good for you, you can eat as much of it as you want.

Answer: False

Fruit is indeed good for you. But too much of anything, even though it is good, can make your belly upset. Many health authorities say you should eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. More than that is even better! But don't eat a whole bag full - I'm sure that your belly won't thank you for it!
7. Bananas are usually a bright yellow and are packed with vitamins and minerals. With most bananas, what colour are the skins when they are unripe?

Answer: Green

With most kinds of bananas, the skin is green when the fruit is unripe. BUT there are some species of bananas that stay green even after they are ripe! Be sure to try them. You'll be suprised how different types of bananas can taste to alike and yet so different!
8. Like many kinds of fruit, including berries, when apples are green, it means that they are not ready to be eaten yet.

Answer: False

Certain species of apples are naturally green even after they are ripened. Granny Smiths and Golden Delicious are two perfect examples of this! If you are not sure if a fruit is ready to be eaten, you should always ask an adult before trying it!
9. Satsumas and mandarins are both rich in vitamin C. What types of fruit are they?

Answer: Oranges

Satsumas and Mandarins look very similar to other oranges but they have a much thinner peel. They are very sweet and very good for you as they contain vitamins.
10. Which of these fruits are found mainly in Asia?

Answer: All of these.

They all are! And many many more. Rambutans are named so because "rambut" means hair in Malay and this fruit is covered by what looks like hair! Mangosteens are purplish in colour and have a soft, white, sweet flesh. Nothing like mangoes! Durian is known around the world to be the King of Fruit and is also known to be one of the smelliest and yet many people still like the taste! So when you travel to new places, always remember to try new fruits - you may be suprised!
