Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In cricket, what are leg byes?

Answer: Runs scored off the batsman's pads

A leg bye is scored when a bowler bowls the ball and hits the batman's pads without the ball touching the bat and a run is taken.
2. Is a wide a legal delivery in cricket?

Answer: no

A wide is a delivery bowled so wide or high that the batsman can't reach the ball with his bat in his normal batting stance. If a wide is bowled, the bowler has to re-bowl the ball.
3. Can the wicketkeeper bowl?

Answer: Yes

Anyone on the fielding team can bowl.
4. How many legal deliveries make an over?

Answer: Six

Six legal deliveries make up an over. If a wide or a no-ball is called, that ball has to be re-bowled.
5. What does a groundsman do?

Answer: He is responsible for preparing the pitch and surrounding areas.

He is probably the most important person of the game, as the state of the pitch can have a big effect on the game.
6. How many teams play in a cricket match?

Answer: two

A cricket match is played between two teams, one of which bats while the other bowls.
7. How many players in a team can bat?

Answer: 11

Everyone in the team can bat except for the twelfth man who can only field if required.
8. What might a bowler say when he is asking the umpire to give a batsman out?

Answer: Howzat?

Some times bowlers are quite animated when they are appealing for a wicket. "Howzat" is a contraction of "How is that".
9. Does the match umpire set the field?

Answer: no

This is done by the captain of the fielding team. Sometimes he will talk to the bowler and see what he wants for field placings.
10. How many days is a cricket test match usually scheduled for?

Answer: 5

Five days is the maximum, but sometimes the match is finished before that.
