Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What momentous event was the reason that the members of the Order of the Phoenix felt it necessary to move Harry out of the Dursley's house?

Answer: Harry's upcoming birthday

In the wizarding world, witches and wizards come of age at 17. When Harry reached the age of 17, the magical protection which prevented Voldemort from attacking him at the Dursley's house ended. The protection would also end whenever Harry was unable to call the Dursleys' house his home anymore.
Since Voldemort was also aware of this, the members of the Order thought it prudent to move Harry in advance of his actual birthday. However the fact that he was leaving the house for the last time also voided the protection.
2. Who revealed the actual date of Harry's transfer to Voldemort, despite the misinformation the Order had been spreading around that the move would occur on the eve of his actual birthday?

Answer: Snape

At the very beginning of the book we found Snape and Yaxley reporting to the Dark Lord. Snape told Voldemort that the Order was planning to move Harry on the following Saturday night. Yaxley disagreed with this information, insisting that, according to his sources, the move would not be until the eve of Harry's birthday.
We later learned that Snape revealed this information under the directions of Dumbledore (advice given through Dumbledore's portrait at Hogwarts) in order to cement Voldemort's trust in Snape who was, in reality, still working for Dumbledore.
3. With the use of Polyjuice Potion (and to confuse any possible attack by Death Eaters), six members of the Order were disguised as Harry and escorted out of Privet Drive, along with the real Harry. Which member of the order did not survive that night?

Answer: Mad-Eye Moody

Beset upon by Death Eaters as soon as they left the Durlsey's the seven different versions of Harry and their escorts set off in different directions. The real Harry was escorted by Hagrid. His owl, Hedwig, was hit by a curse aimed at Harry, and died. Acting as a Harry decoy and escorted by Remus Lupin, George lost his ear, sliced off by a spell thrown by Snape (we later found that Snape was really aiming at the wand hand of another Death Eater). Mad-Eye was escorting Mundungus (as another Harry decoy) and this pair were the first to be attacked by Voldemort. Mundungus panicked and disapparated, but Moody was killed by Voldemort.
4. Who informed Harry, Ron and Hermione of the bequests left to them in Dumbledore's will?

Answer: Rufus Scrimgeour

The Minster of Magic visited our friends at the Weasley's house to question them about why Dumbledore had mentioned them in his will. The Ministry had been examining the will and the objects for as long as the law allowed and was now forced to hand over the objects. Scrimgeour, who had tried to recruit Harry's assistance before, was very suspicious of the endowments.

Hermione had been left a book of children's stories, Ron received Dumbledore's Deluminator and Harry had been left the first Snitch he had ever caught, plus Gryffindor's sword. Scrimgeour did not bring the sword, as he said it had not been Dumbledore's to give.
5. During the wedding celebrations for Bill and Fleur, Kingsley Shacklebolt sent a Patronus to tell the guests that the Ministry had fallen, Scrimgeour (the Minister) was dead and the wedding celebration was about to be attacked by Death Eaters. What form did the Patronus take?

Answer: A lynx

The wedding guests were enjoying themselves, many of them dancing, when Shacklebolt's Patronus arrived to give them the news. What was never clearly explained was how these events enabled Death Eaters to finally penetrate the charms put around the Burrow - charms which had previously made it safe from Death Eaters.
Shacklebolt's warning enabled many people to get away safely, including Harry, Hermione and Ron.
The doe Patronus belonged to Snape, the otter to Hermione and the stag to Harry.
6. Escaping from the wedding to London, our three friends found themselves confronted by a pair of Death Eaters, disguised as workmen. This close brush impressed on them the need to find someplace to hide. Where did they decide to go?

Answer: Sirius Black's house

Fearful that there was still some kind of trace on Harry, that revealed his presence every time he used magic, they knew they had to find somewhere to hide. Taking the chance that the Order's protections of their former headquarters were still in order, they decided to hide out in Sirius' old house, which had been left to Harry on Sirius' death. Once they got past the Curse that Mad-Eye had left to catch Snape, should he still be able to get in, they found that the house seemed to have been searched.

However no one was in it except the house elf, Kreacher.
7. Kreacher's animosity towards Harry, Ron and especially Hermione (a Mudblood) was well documented in book five, "The Order of the Phoenix". His initial interaction with them showed that his attitude had not changed. How did they win him over?

Answer: By giving him Regulus Black's old locket

While exploring the house, they realized that Sirius' brother, Regulas Arcturus Black, had the same initials as the locket which had been left, with a note, in place of the real Horcrux that Dumbledore and Harry had tried to retrieve the night that Dumbledore was killed.
A conversation with Kreacher revealed that he did indeed know the story of the locket that had been used for a Horcrux and revealed that Mundungus had taken it.
Harry gave Kreacher the locket that Regulus had left in place of the Horcrux, which won Kreacher's devotion. He also sent Kreacher in search of Mundungus, to find out what had happened to the locket.
8. Who did they eventually find was in possession of the locket/Horcrux?

Answer: Dolores Umbridge

Kreacher did indeed manage to bring Mundungus back and he revealed that Umbridge had caught him trying to sell some things in Diagon Alley. She had helped herself to the locket as payment for not fining Mundungus for selling magical artifacts without a license. Umbridge was the Ministry secretary who had taken over the position of Defense Against the Darks Arts professor when Harry was in year five.

She was a thoroughly despicable woman who also became High Inquisitor at Hogwarts, and eventually Headmaster after Fudge removed (temporarily of course) Dumbledore from the post, after Dumbledore's Army had been discovered.
9. What did Harry find embedded in the door of Umbridge's office?

Answer: Moody's magical eye

The presence of the eye made Harry very angry, but he soon found that it served a purpose beyond that of the glaring statement it made. Before he actually saw the eye, he'd heard two workmen discussing Umbridge and one (after being cautioned to be quiet, said "What, has she got magic ears as well as an eye now?" This definitely implies that the eye was something they feared.
There was also speculation that the eye revealed Harry's presence in her office, and started the pursuit that they nearly didn't escape from.
10. After retrieving the Horcrux, they tried to return to their safe place but they were pursued (actually Yaxley tagged along when they disapparated). This meant that the Death Eaters knew their hiding place and they had to go somewhere else. Where did Hermione take them?

Answer: To the site of the Quidditch World Cup

Upset at their narrow escape, and at having led Yaxley inside the protective charm at Blacks' house, Hermione took them to somewhere safe and remote. The first place she thought about was the wooded area where they had camped during the Quidditch World Cup, in year four.
Ron was injured by a splinching while disapparating and needed time to heal. They stayed in the tent that Hermione had packed in her bag that had been charmed to be able to hold an amazing amount of stuff.
