After the murder of his parents, Harry is brought to live with his aunt, uncle, and cousin by Albus Dumbledore, Minerva McGonagall, and Rubeus Hagrid. Albus Dumbledore arrives by apparating, Minerva McGonagall arrives by transforming into her animagus (a tabby cat with spectacle markings around its eyes), and Rubeus Hagrid arrives on a borrowed flying motorcycle. Albus Dumbledore assures the other two that Harry living with his aunt, uncle, and cousin will be the best solution.

The infant, Harry, is left on the doorstep with a letter written by Dumbledore describing the events that transpired.

Answer: Piers Polkiss

Piers, whom Harry describes as being "a scrawny boy with a face like a rat", was Dudley's best friend and fellow bully, which is shown in the book in the line: "He was usually the one who held people's arms behind their backs while Dudley hit them." Piers and Dudley sit with Harry in the back seat of the car on their way to the zoo.

They are also the ones who antagonize the snake in the exhibit, only further proving that they are horrid human beings.

It was only because of Piers and Dudley that Harry even got to get this small and cheap treat. When Piers and Dudley walked into the zoo entrance, they both ordered chocolate sundaes. The lady in the van had asked Harry what he wanted, but before he could say anything, Uncle Dursley bought him the most inexpensive item on the menu. Harry didn't mind, saying: "It wasn't bad, either..."

Answer: Little Whinging, Surrey

When the letters for Harry start coming in the mail, it is clearly addressed to: "Mr. H Potter, The Cupboard Under the Stairs, 4 Privet Drive, Little Whinging, Surrey." Little Whinging does not exist in real life. It is a fictitious town set in Surrey, which is real.

Hagrid hands the cake to Harry once he basically bursts through the shack door. He says to Harry: "Anyway - Harry... a very happy birthday to yeh. Got summat fer yeh here - I mighta sat on it at some point, but it'll taste all right." The chocolate cake is slightly squashed, but it was Harry's first birthday cake ever. In green icing, the cake read: "Happy Birthday Harry".

While people were staring on the train, Hagrid (who was taking up two seats) began knitting "what looked like a canary-yellow circus tent." While Hagrid is knitting this parcel, he tells Harry to look over his school supply list. Harry asks if they can "buy this all in London" and Hagrid, absorbed in his knitting and being very mysterious, replies: "If yeh know where to go."

Adalbert Waffling, author of "Magical Theory" and the creator of the "Fundamental Laws of Magic", was never introduced into the story (or the movies) by name. One could only find his name if they looked at the supply list given in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (American edition) or "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" (English edition).

Answer: Holly and phoenix feather

Harry's wand, made of holly and phoenix feather with a length of 11 inches, contained a feather from the same phoenix that donated only one other feather to another wand. The other feather was inside of the wand that belonged to Voldemort, the dark wizard who murdered Harry's parents. Ollivander sorrowfully apologizes for a wand of his creation being the one to kill Harry's family and give him a scar... and yet compliments Voldemort for being able to become such a powerful wizard using the dark arts, saying: "After all, He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did great things - terrible, yes, but great."

We enter the scene with Percy informing Harry to steer clear of Peeves, since "The Bloody Baron's the only one who can control him, he won't even listen to us prefects." The Gryffindors approach the portrait of a very fat woman in a pink silk dress, where Percy utters the password. Harry climbs through the portrait hole with the other Gryffindors and sees the common room, described as being a "round, cozy room full of squashy armchairs."

Professor Snape hurls this question at Harry during their first class together. Snape is trying to prove that "fame isn't everything" by making Harry look like a dunce in front of the entire class. He ignores Hermione when her hand is eagerly raised, for he is not truly looking for his question to be answered. He wants to make a fool out of Harry because he absolutely loathes him.
