Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What would you put on your frypan before you made something like fried eggs, to stop them sticking?

Answer: Oil

You can get olive oil or vegetable oil. Apart from that you could use solid fats like lard or margarine (or butter).
2. Which of the following is NOT usually put on hot chips (French fries) as an added flavouring (in most restaurants)?

Answer: Coconut

Coconut is sweet but hot chips are generally meant to be a salty type of food. Some people like to use pepper to make their chips a bit spicy.
3. "Black" pepper is actually what colour?

Answer: brown

It's actually a dark brown. You can buy them already crushed or you can buy peppercorns whole.
4. What vegetable are chips most commonly made from?

Answer: Potato

That is why they are sometimes called potato chips. You can have thin ones cold in packets or thick ones hot and fried. They taste great with salt.
5. This is used a lot for some Asian foods.

Answer: Soy sauce

Soy sauce is in many Asian foods. It gives just a little more flavour and a brownish colour.
6. You can get this in desiccated form, or shredded form. It comes from a tropical plant.

Answer: Coconut

Coconut tastes really good with chocolate, like in a Bounty bar. It can be used a lot to sweeten recipes or as a decorative sprinkling on top of icing.
7. Which of these is NOT a common way of cooking eggs?

Answer: Grilled

Poached eggs are cooked in water (sometimes in the microwave), boiled eggs are cooked still in the shell while in water, and fried eggs are fried in a saucepan or frying pan.
8. Cinnamon is a spice that can also come in the form of what?

Answer: Cinnamon sugar

Cinnamon sugar is commonly used on plain donuts. The others I made up.
9. What is the main dry ingredient used to make porridge?

Answer: Oats

Porridge is traditionally a Scottish breakfast dish, made with rolled oats that expand in hot water to make a soup-like cereal. You can add milk, cream, sugar, honey, or other things to cool it down or make it sweet. Rolled oats are also used in Australia to make ANZAC biscuits.
10. Finally, once you mix ingredients together and they are ready to COOK, which of the following places would you NOT put them?

Answer: Fridge

A fridge is cold, and so are freezers. If you put the ingredients in there, it would be because the recipe says to CHILL, not COOK. Hope you enjoyed my quiz!
