Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A tricycle has how many wheels?

Answer: 3

When a word begins with the letters 'tri', it usually indicates that there are three of something. In this case, tricycle means a cycle with three wheels.
2. How many legs does a quadruped have?

Answer: 4

When a word begins with the letters 'quad', it usually implies that there are four of something. Dogs and cats are considered quadrupeds and humans are considered bipeds because we walk on two legs.
3. If a street sign has eight sides on it, what shape is it?

Answer: Octagon

The most common octagon shaped sign used in many countries is the red and white stop sign. The word "octagon" starts with the same three letters as "octopus" which is an aquatic animal with eight legs. A hexagon has six sides, a pentagon has five, and a heptagon has seven.
4. If someone says they are going to pick you up at a quarter to seven, what hand would the minute hand of the clock be on when they are expected to arrive?

Answer: 9

Analog clocks contain the numbers one through twelve on their faces. The minute hand starts at "zero" on the twelve at the top. Each number represents five minutes having passed. Three would be fifteen past, the six would be half past the hour, and the nine would be three quarters past the hour or a quarter to.
5. How many gallons of gasoline could you put in your car if the tank held twenty-four quarts of fuel?

Answer: 6

There are four quarts in a gallon and the tank holds twenty-four quarts. Therefore, you divide twenty-four quarts by four and you are left with a total of six gallons.
6. If you bake a baker's dozen worth of cupcakes, how many would you have left if you ate four of them?

Answer: 9

A dozen of anything is twelve. However, a baker's dozen consists of twelve of whatever they have prepared along with one extra for them to try for themselves, which would make a total of thirteen. Thirteen minus four is nine.
7. How many inches would a five foot tall ladder be?

Answer: 60

In standard measurements, there are twelve inches in a foot. Therefore, five feet times twelve inches would give you a total of sixty inches.
8. If a temperature of zero degrees Celsius was measured, what number would that be in Fahrenheit?

Answer: 32

On the temperature scale, zero degrees Celsius is the freezing point of water. In Fahrenheit measurements, the number is thirty-two for water to freeze at.
9. If you are on a road trip and traveling at a constant speed of sixty miles per hour, how long would it take to travel one-hundred and eighty miles?

Answer: 3 hours

If you divide one-hundred and eighty miles by sixty miles per hour, then you find that it would take three hours to travel that far.
10. How many Washington bills would it take to equal a Hamilton bill in US currency?

Answer: 10

The US one dollar bill holds the portrait of George Washington. The US ten dollar bill has Hamilton on it. So, one times ten would be ten. Lincoln is on the five, Jackson is on the twenty, and Grant is on the fifty.
