Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which one of these diaries is named "________, The Girl King"?

Answer: Kristina

This is the title of the book, but the context of why it was named accordingly is mentioned several times in the book. Kristina was supposed to be a boy,and for several days no one could tell if she was a girl or a boy, because there was a caul covering her from head to toe.

When they finally realized that she was a girl, her father ordered her to be brought up as a PRINCE, and to be taught in all the subjects that boys were taught in: riding, fencing, archery, etc.
2. In "Jahanara,Princess of Princesses" what was the name of Jahanara's tutor, and her mother's lady-in-waiting?

Answer: Satty

Her full name is Sati-un Nissa, but throughout most of the book she is referred to as "Satty". Satty is a beloved character throughout the entire book.
3. In "Jahanara, Princess of Princesses", the name of Jahanara's step-grandmother, whom she is afraid of, is Mashanhanara.

Answer: False

Actually her name is Nur Mahal, which means "Light of the Palace".
4. In "Elizabeth, Red Rose of the House of Tudor" what is the palace that Elizabeth gets exiled to?

Answer: Hatfield

Elizabeth doesn't really mind being at Hatfield, actually it is her favorite place to be. But she hates being there in exile, because there is hardly anyone there with her, no friends, or anyone to talk to other than Kat, and the few servants that are there aren't as respectful when she is in exile.
5. The character Theophilus is in which book?

Answer: Cleopatra, Daughter of the Nile

Theophilus is a Hebrew scholar in "Cleopatra, Daughter of the Nile". He and Cleopatra exchanged letters many times, and he is mentioned in the book on several occasions.
6. In "Marie Antoinette, Princess of Versailles", what is the name of Marie Antoinette's sister with the horrible pox-marks?

Answer: Elizabeth

Elizabeth was stricken with Smallpox, and is mentioned in the book many times. Caroline is Marie's favorite sister, but was married off, and doesn't get to see Marie anymore. Josephine is a sister of Marie Antoinette, but she died. Lulu is actually a Lady-in-waiting, not Marie's sister at all!
7. In "Weetamoo, Heart of the Pocossets" what is the name of Weetamoo's friend from another tribe?

Answer: Cedar

Snowbird is Weetamoo's baby sister that dies partway through the book. Seal is a toddler from another family. Wootonekanuske is Weetamoo's other sister, who is about 12 years old through most of the book. Cedar is Weetamoo's friend from another tribe. They are very close, and both of them will grow up to be sachems of their villages.
8. Lucretia is the name of Mary's fool, in "Elizabeth,Red Rose of the House of Tudor".(Not the bald fool)

Jane the Bald was also Mary's fool, but Lucretia is the other one. Elizabeth likes both of these women a lot, and they are mentioned many, many times throughout the book.

10. In "Cleopatra, Daughter of the Nile" what is the name of Cleopatra's sister who immediately took the throne in the absence of Cleopatra and her father, Ptolemy Auletes?

Answer: Tryphaena

Tryphaena was referred to as the mean one, and she took the throne immediately when her father and Cleopatra left for Rome. Berenice is the oldest, but is timid. Berenice eventually takes over, but that is after Tryphaena is dead. Arsinoe is Cleopatra's younger sister, and Neva is Cleopatra's loyal maid.
11. Which one of the Royal Diaries contains the short poem, "Monday's Child is fair of face, Tuesday's Child is full of grace...."

Answer: Elisabeth, the Princess Bride

"Elisabeth, The Princess Bride" contains that short poem. Elisabeth was born on a Sunday, and she records that poem about halfway through the book.
12. In "Isabel, Jewel of Castilla", what does Isabel call Queen Juana's brother, whom Isabel at one time was betrothed to?

Answer: El Escorpion

El Escorpion (The Scorpion) is Isabel's name for the King of Portugal, Queen Juana's brother. El Zorro (The Fox) is Carillo's son, Pacheco, and Alfonso is Isabel's brother. Old Guy? well, that was just a bit of humor on my part!
