Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What measurement measures how FAR runners run?

Answer: Distance

Distance is how far something is. Some runners run long distances like marathons and some runners run short distances like 50 yard dashes.
2. What is "sprinting"?

Answer: Running as fast as you can go.

Some races are very short. In those races, runners will "sprint", or run as fast as they can go. Even in long distance runs, runners sprint at the end of a race to do their very best.
3. What kind of medal would a winner of a race get?

Answer: Gold

A gold medal is given to the winner of a race, a silver medal is given to the second place finisher, and a bronze medal is given to the third place finisher.
4. What running race is 26.2 miles long?

Answer: Marathon

Marathons are very long. Half-marathons (which are 13.1 miles) are more popular because they are shorter, but are still a long distance.
5. What is a track?

Answer: A large oval that people run on that has a rubber surface.

A track is a quarter of a mile (400 meters) long.
6. Where would a cross country race usually take place?

Answer: In the grass/woodland.

Running on grass is better for your body because grass is softer than a road, track, or a beach.
7. Which one of the following is the best thing that a runner can drink to stay hydrated while running?

Answer: Water

Pop is unhealthy, coffee makes you more thirsty, and milk can make you sick while you run. Water is the best choice for runners.
8. What are two good things to do if you are (or even if you are not) a runner?

Answer: Eat the right foods and get good sleep.

Exercise, nutrition, and sleep are really good to have whether you are a runner or not.
9. When is it a good idea to stop running for a while?

Answer: If you are injured or hurt badly.

You should stop running when you are hurt so your body can heal.
10. What is something you CAN'T get or become from going on a run?

Answer: Out of shape.

There seems to never be an ending to the good things running can do for you.
