Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Maynard triplets shared the same first name - what was it?

Answer: Mary

The triplets all had Mary as their first name - Mary Helena, Mary Constance and Mary Margaret. To their family and friends they were known by abbreviations of their second names - Len, Con and Margot.
2. In what month were the triplets born?

Answer: November

They were born on 5th November, and so Jo Maynard used to describe them as her 'big bang', since they were born on Bonfire Night. This is the English celebration of when Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London.
3. When the triplets were born, Jo used to call them One, Two and Three.

Answer: True

The triplets were born during 'The Chalet School in Exile' while Jack Maynard was with his regiment in France. Probable names for the babies were discussed by various members of the family and by friends but no one could get any sense out of the parents on the subject. Dr. Peter Chester observed that Jo called them One, Two and Three 'when there's anyone around'.
4. One of the triplets was sent with her Aunt Madge to Canada for the bracing air, as her health had been poor since she had been a baby. Which girl was it?

Answer: Margot

Margot caught bronchitis when she was a baby and this left her more delicate than her sisters. Her health was a worry to her parents, so when Jack heard that Dr. Russell planned on going to Canada with his family, he requested that they take Margot along too.
5. On the family's return from Canada, the triplets go back to the Chalet School. Not long after this, Margot meets up with the girl destined to become her best friend. What was her name?

Answer: Emerence Hope

Although Emerence was a good two years older than Margot, and in a higher form, the two girls took an instant liking to each other, much to the consternation of the staff at the Chalet School.
6. Which of the triplets is often described as having long dark hair and brown eyes?

Answer: Con

Len is described as having long, chestnut hair and grey eyes, while Margot had short auburn hair and blue eyes. When they were babies they looked much more alike.
7. Which of the triplets was accused of shoplifting?

Answer: Len

During a shopping trip to Lausanne, a thief bumps into Len and puts some stolen goods in her pocket. Fortunately, Miss Charlesworth is on hand to set things straight and the store detective accepts Len's innocence. This happened in 'The Chalet School Triplets".
8. Len hoped to become a medical missionary once she had completed her training as a doctor.

Answer: False

Len had always wanted to become a teacher and return to work at the Chalet School. Margot, who had something of a stormy youth, finally decided that she would train as a doctor and then join an order of nuns that would allow her to become a missionary.
9. Which of the triplets became the editor of the Chalet School's magazine?

Answer: Con

Con inherited her mother's gift for writing and was thrilled to be chosen to become the 25th editor of the Chaletian.
10. In 'New Beginnings At The Chalet School' whom does Len Maynard marry?

Answer: Reg Entwhistle

Hints are given from time to time towards the end of the series that Dr. Entwhistle plans to marry Len, and in 'Prefects of the Chalet School' they get engaged.
