1. What were the original names of the three children who lived near the Enchanted Wood?

Answer: Jo, Bessie and Fanny

In the modern editions their names have been changed to Joe, Beth and Frannie.
2. What sound did the trees of the Enchanted Wood make?

Answer: Wisha-wisha-wisha-wisha-wisha

The trees could talk to each other by leaning their branches into one another and making the Wisha-wisha sound.
3. What types of fruit did the Magic Faraway Tree grow?

Answer: Everything

It grew everything from acorns and horse-chestnuts, to cherries and plums, all at the same time on different parts of the tree!
4. What was the name of the old gnome who liked to sleep and snored very loudly?

Answer: Mister Watzisname

Nobody knew his real name and he didn't even know it himself! He often snored as loudly as an aeroplane!
5. Why was the pretty fairy called Silky?

Answer: She had silky hair

When the children first went to her house, she was washing her hair. She had a sweet face and was kind and was the first of the Faraway Tree folk to invite them in.
6. What was a 'pop biscuit'?

Answer: Cake on the outside and honey in the middle

As soon as the children bit into a 'pop biscuit' it would explode and fill their mouths with a delicious honey. In the latest editions of the stories the word 'biscuits' has been changed to 'cakes'.
7. What shape was the furniture in Moonface's house?

Answer: Curved

He had a curved bed, a curved table, and two curved chairs. They were all shaped this way to fit the roundness of the tree trunk in which he lived.
8. What was the quickest way down from the Magic Faraway Tree?

Answer: The Slippery Slip

It was a big slide that ran down the whole trunk of the tree, winding round and down to the bottom. The opening for the Slippery Slip began in Moonface's house.
9. What was Moonface's favourite sweet?

Answer: Toffee

He didn't like chocolate at all, only toffee! Bessie made the sweetest, chewiest toffee for him as payment for the children using the Slippery Slip.
10. What appeared at the top of the ladder at the highest point of the Magic Faraway Tree?

Answer: Clouds that carried new lands

The children could visit the new lands each time a new cloud appeared at the top of the ladder. Some of the lands they went to were the Land of Birthdays, Topsy-Turvy Land and the Land of Take-What-You-Want. The children had to be careful to leave the lands before the cloud blew away or they would be stuck there until the next time the cloud visited the Magic Faraway Tree!
