Breezepelt hated Jayfeather and Lionblaze because of what Cowfeather and Leafpool did. Breezepelt was their half-brother. Both Jayfeather and Breezepelt followed Poppyfrost to the Moonpool. Breezepelt threatened to kill Poppyfrost, but attacked Jayfeather. During the fight Brokenstar helped Breezepelt and Honeyfern helped Jayfeather. If it weren't for Honeyfern, Breezepelt would have killed him.

After Jayfeather's fight with Breezepelt, Yellowfang told him that the power of the Dark Forest was rising. She also said that StarClan will need something stronger than them, which means the Three. Later, Lionblaze and Jayfeather find out that the cats in the Dark Forest are recruiting cats from the Clans, such as Breezepelt and Tigerheart.

Throughout the book, Poppyfrost had been distraught because she was not sure if Berrynose loved her or if he was still in love with her sister, Honeyfern. Honeyfern said that Berrynose did love her and he just didn't want to lose Poppyfrost like he lose her.
