Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was 'The House at Pooh Corner' built for?

Answer: Eeyore

Pooh and Piglet built a house for Eeyore out of 'a pile of sticks' that Piglet saw on the other side of the wood from Pooh Corner. It was somewhat unfortunate that the pile of sticks had been Eeyore's house! But Eeyore decided that the wind had blown his house over the wood and settled happily into the new location.
2. What is not something that Tiggers think they like best?

Answer: Cookies

When Tigger arrives at the Forest, he tells Pooh that Tiggers like everything. Except that they don't like honey. Or haycorns (their name for acorns). Or thistles (much to the relief of Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore respectively!) Tigger eventually discovered that what Tiggers really like is Extract of Malt (Roo's Strengthening Medicine).

He also gets a spoonful of Roosbreakfast after meals as medicine sometimes.
3. Who found Small, Rabbit's friend-and-relation, who had got lost walking round a gorse bush for exercise?

Answer: Piglet

Pooh and Piglet had fallen into the Gravel Pit looking for Small, whose real name was Very Small Beetle. Actually, Pooh was looking for Piglet, to ask him whether Small was the sort of friend-and-relation 'who settles on one's nose or the sort who got trodden on by mistake', but fell into the Gravel Pit, landing on Piglet who'd fallen in earlier.

When Christopher Robin found Pooh and Piglet, Piglet spotted Small crawling up Pooh's back. Nobody told Eeyore, though - and he was still looking for Small two days later.
4. What is shown that Tiggers don't do in Chapter IV of 'The House at Pooh Corner'?

Answer: Climb trees

Unfortunately, Tigger doesn't find out that Tiggers can't climb trees until he and Roo are extremely high in the tallest of the Six Pine Trees. Luckily, Christopher Robin comes along and with Pooh, Piglet and Eeyore, stretches out his tunic to catch Roo and Tigger as they jump off the tree. Tigger always bounces, but in the book he doesn't sing about it. Or tell us that he's the only one.
5. Who has a Busy Day when we find out what Christopher Robin does in the Mornings?

Answer: Rabbit

This is from Chapter V 'In which Rabbit has a Busy Day, and we learn what Christopher Robin does in the Mornings'. Rabbit wakes up feeling 'important, as if everything depended on him', so goes round to see Christopher Robin. But Christopher Robin wasn't there, just a note from him, reading "GON OUT. BACKSON. BISY. BACKSON. C. R." After Rabbit sets out on a fruitless search for 'a Spotted or Herbaceous Backson' (who Rabbit is convinced is a friend of Christopher Robin) we learn from Eeyore that Christopher Robin is being Educated in the Mornings. So much so, that the next morning, the note on his door reads "GONE OUT. BACK SOON. C. R."
6. Pooh invented a new game called 'Poohsticks' after accidentally dropping a fir cone in the river. What was Eeyore doing when he met Pooh, Piglet, Rabbit and Roo playing Poohsticks?

Answer: Waiting for someone to help him out of the river

Eeyore appeared in the river 'looking very calm, very dignified, with his legs in the air' (a gorgeous picture here from E H Shephard), having been bounced in by Tigger. Tigger denied bouncing, but admitted coughing (His "Grrrr - oppp - ptschschz" took Piglet by surprise too). Christopher Robin gets them all to make up by playing Poohsticks, and Eeyore won more games than anyone else.

In case you've never played 'Poohsticks', you need a bridge over a river and a stick (that you can identify) each. Drop the sticks upriver, then cross the bridge and see which stick comes out first, and they're the winner. Great fun on a hot sunny day!
7. In Chapter VII of 'The House at Pooh Corner', Rabbit and Piglet decide it would be a Very Good Idea if Tigger could be 'unbounced', as he needed to be taught a lesson. According to Rabbit, Tigger would be many different types of Tigger afterwards. What was not one of them?

Answer: A Quiet Tigger

Also, Rabbit imagined a 'Oh-Rabbit-I-am-glad-to-see-you-Tigger', but not a Quiet Tigger. Of course the plan (where Rabbit, Pooh and Piglet took Tigger into the misty Forest to lose him) went wrong. After Rabbit, Pooh and Piglet hid, Tigger went straight home (apparently Tiggers never get lost). Pooh and Piglet found Christopher Robin, and a very Small and Sorry Rabbit was eventually found by a Friendly Tigger, and was very glad!
8. On a Very Blusterous Thursday, the tree with Owl's house blew down. Who valiantly saved the animals?

Answer: Piglet

Pooh and Piglet visited Kanga and Roo, Rabbit, Christopher Robin, Eeyore and Owl to wish them a Very Happy Thursday, but while visiting Owl, the tree blew down and Owl's door finished up on the ceiling. Luckily Pooh, being an Astute and Helpful Bear, came up with a plan which involved Piglet being winched up to the letter box, which Piglet squeezed, squoze and squzed through and went for help.
9. Where does Eeyore find a location for Owl's new house, THE WOLERY?

Answer: Piglet's house

Owl had made himself a smart new sign reading 'THE WOLERY'. Unfortunately Eeyore sat on it, making Owl's new address 'THE SMEAR', and Eeyore proudly led them to Piglet's house and said it was 'just the house for Owl'. Little Piglet did a Noble Thing and said it was and he hoped Owl would be happy in it. Pooh asked Piglet to come and live with him, so Piglet was happy too.
10. In Chapter X 'In which Christopher Robin and Pooh come to an Enchanted Place, and We leave them There', what do we learn that Christopher Robin likes doing best in the world, but he's not going to do any more because 'they won't let you'?

Answer: Nothing

Christopher Robin explains to Pooh that 'it's when people call out at you just as you're going off to do it, "What are you going to do, Christopher Robin?" and you say "Oh, nothing," and then you go and do it.' But now Christopher Robin's growing up, and 'They' don't let you do Nothing any more. So he and Pooh go to Galleon's Lap, an enchanted place with sixty-something trees in a circle, and Christopher Robin makes Pooh promise that he'll never forget him. "But wherever they go, and whatever happens to them on the way, in that enchanted place on the top of the Forest a little boy and his Bear will always be playing". I hope you've enjoyed the quiz, and I hope you read the books (either for the first time or again!)
