Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Why do Roger, Diana, and Snubby go to stay at Ring O' Bells village?

Answer: They are recuperating from illness

The children have had a nasty bout of flu, so Miss Pepper takes them to her cousin Miss Hannah's house, in the country village of Ring O' Bells, to relax while they recover completely before going back to school.
2. Loony the dog finds a 'partner in crime' in the village. Who is his new doggy friend?

Answer: Loopy

The two spaniels Loony and Loopy have a great time teaching each other new ways to get into mischief. Once Miranda arrives too there is no stopping them!
3. The children meet "Old Grandad" who lives with his daughter, in the village. He is a descendant of the family who used to live in Ring O' Bells Hall years ago; what was the family name?

Answer: Dourley

Everyone called Old Grandad "Button" when he was young because of the shape of his nose, but his real name is Hugh Dourley. Although he is very old and often gets confused, when something jogs his memory, he tells the children some interesting bits of information that get them involved with a new adventure...
4. The caretaker at Ring O'Bells Hall shows the children a hidden "Priest hole" hiding place; where is it?

Answer: Up the chimney in the drawing room

By standing right in the fireplace, they can see two steps up the chimney. The hiding place is little more than a man sized gap in the brickwork of the chimney, and Roger thinks that if there was a fire in the grate, anyone hiding would be "suffocated or cooked".
5. It is in "The Ring O'Bells Mystery" that we find out Miss Pepper's first name; what is it?

Answer: Becky

Miss Pepper's cousin Hannah calls her Becky when they are discussing Barney's impending arrival. Miss Hannah says that she cannot possibly have Miranda in the house as she is terrified of monkeys.
6. What is written on the side of the van in which Barney hitches a lift on his way to join Roger, Diana, and Snubby at Ring O'Bells?

Answer: Piggott, Electrician

Barney gets a lift as far as Lilinghame after he changes a wheel for the driver, never dreaming that the van is in fact driven by one of the 'baddies', going all the way to Ring O'Bells Hall for 'sinister purposes'...
7. Miss Naomi Barlow lives in Ring O' Bells cottage. What do the children call her when they first see her?

Answer: Red Riding Hood

Ring O' Bells cottage is in the woods, away from the rest of the village. Miss Barlow has a red cloak with a hood, so the children can't resist calling her Red Riding Hood.
She is a very kind lady, and likes monkeys, so she lets Barney sleep in her little 'cubby hole' pantry room when he can't find anywhere else to stay with Miranda.
8. Where does Barney spend the nights before he finds lodgings with Miss Barlow?

Answer: Ring O'Bells Hall

Barney sneaks into Ring O'Bells Hall to spend his first couple of nights in the village. He hears strange noises and realises there is a mystery to be solved...
9. One end of the secret passage is in the drawing room of Ring O' Bells Hall, behind the panelling. Where is the other end?

Answer: Down the well at Ring O' Bells cottage

The well in the cottage garden is very deep, and there are metal staples in the inside wall, which lead down to the entrance to the tunnel.
10. Who or what is hidden down the old secret passage?

Answer: A kidnapped policeman

The strange "booming" noise Barney heard at night was Detective Inspector Rawlings' dreadful cough being magnified by the secret passage. By the time the children find him and fetch help he is gravely ill, so they actually save his life!
