During hot summer days, many children in North America put up lemonade stands to make a bit of pocket money. A lemonade stand can be a simple table holding a pitcher of lemonade and plastic cups, with a sign advertising the cost of each cup. Or it can be a specially built stand, made out of wood. County fairs, festivals and amusement parks often have large lemonade stands.
Lemonade can be made with lemon juice, water and sugar. Pink lemonade is made the same way, but a red color is added, usually a fruit juice or liquid food dye.

Most fruit stands sell apples, cherries, berries, pears, rhubarb, melons and other fruits that are grown in certain areas. In the United States, many farmers sell their produce at a roadside stand on their farm, and also at a stand in town. They also sometimes sell vegetables, such as corn, beets, beans and carrots.

News stands sell local newspapers, and newspapers from other cities. They also often sell magazines, snacks, drinks and candy. In larger cities in the United States, they are usually found on busy street corners, or near bus or train stations. The person selling the newspapers is called a newsagent or vendor.

Bus stands (or stops) usually have a sign telling the stop's number and the route number. A bus stop can be out in the open, with just a sign. Or, it may have a bench, or a small shelter to protect waiting people from bad weather. Most American cities have regular bus services, and there are bus routes that also go between some cities.

Hot dog stands can be found at baseball parks, street corners, subway entrances and amusement parks. One type of hot dog stand is a hot dog wagon. The wagon is on wheels, and can be moved from place to place. Hot dogs are also sometimes called frankfurters, wieners or tube steaks.

Taco stands often sell other foods, such as nachos, which are tortilla chips covered with cheese, and burritos, which are filled with meat and beans, and rolled or folded. In the United States, tacos can be made with a corn or flour tortilla, which is a kind of flatbread.

The tortilla can be deep fried and then shaped into a 'U' form and filled, or warmed, but left soft, then filled and folded in half.

Popcorn is sold in a lot of different places. You might find a popcorn stand at a movie theater, a ball game, a circus or a zoo. The popcorn can be plain, salted, buttered or flavored. There are also popcorn stands which sell caramel corn, which is sometimes called candy corn.

A shoe shine stand is often placed where businessmen, and women, might be found. In train stations, airports and outside - or inside - office buildings, shoe shine stands provide a way for people to clean snow, mud or dust off of their shoes. Frozen yogurt stands offer an assortment of flavors and styles. Frozen yogurt can be fat-free or regular, and served in a cup, bowl or cone. The stands are very popular during the summer, and can be found on street corners, at fairs and even at ice cream socials.

Coffee stands often serve more than just coffee. They can also sell hot tea, iced tea, hot chocolate, juice, soda pop and bottled water. Some stands also serve muffins, doughnuts and other snacks. In addition to regular coffee, iced coffee, cappuccino, espresso or lattes might also be available.
