"The brightest witch of our time" should of course be Hermione Granger. You'll find her most often in the library, for she loves reading about everything that has to do with the magic world. Hermione started in Hogwarts in the same year as the world famous Harry Potter and his friend Ron Weasley. To the astonishment of these two youngsters, she knows it all - even though she was born to muggle parents (non-wizards).

What is all this Removocali spell thing? Well, I never went to Hogwarts (as I'm not a character from the Harry Potter series). The Removocali spell is a pure invention of mine, based upon the names JK Rowling devised for the different spells used throughout all the books and movies. I thought a spell that removes all vowels could have its use sometimes. For instance, if you were to encounter Lord Voldemort, the worst he could do after being hit by the Removocali spell were to utter "VD KDVR" - nothing like the unforgivable killing curse.

Answer: Cho Chang

Cho Chang was a Hogwarts student sorted into the house of Ravenclaw. She was one year older than our heroes Harry, Ron and Hermione. In "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", Cho had a crush on Cedric Diggory, and thus refused Harry's invitation for the Yule Ball.

After Cedric was killed by Peter Pettigrew, Cho joined the student's group Dumbledore's Army, led by Harry. She had a romantic encounter with Harry, but not one that led to a lasting affair.

Answer: Neville Longbottom

Neville Longbottom is a Gryffindor student of Harry's age. Neville's parents have been tortured by the Deatheaters and thus met a fate worse than death. In the start of the book series, Neville is quite distracted and forgetful. Once his grandmother sent him a Remembrall, but Neville forgot what it was that he should not forget. Later he lived up to great challenges.

At the end of the series, Neville was named the new Professor of Herbology.

Draco Malfoy was a member of a very famous wizard family. He was sorted in the House of Slytherin, and he missed not a single chance to hinder Harry in whatever he was doing. Harry and his friends were always at loggerheads with Draco. At one time (in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban") Hermione planted her fist on Draco's nose. Later Draco was one of the youngest wizards who joined the Deatheaters, and he got the mission to kill the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore.

Remus Lupin was the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". When Harry fainted after his first encounter with a Dementor (hooded figures who feed on the souls of their victims), Remus advised him to eat some chocolate. Later Remus decided to teach Harry how to produce a Patronus: a mighty charm to repel Dementors.

Answer: Luna Lovegood

Luna Lovegood was a Ravenclaw student, one year younger than Harry, Ron and Hermione. Luna was nine years old when she witnessed her mother dying from a miscast spell. Thus she was one of the first students able to see thestrals (horse-like skeletons, only visible for a wizard or witch who saw the death of a person).

Luna is portrayed as rather distracted. She seemed always to lose things (such as her shoes), and then blamed the Nargles (some creature only Luna seems to be familiar with) of having stolen her belongings. However, most of the time she seemed without worries. The following quote describes Luna's point of view: "Anyway, my mum always said things we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end. --- If not always in the way we expect." She said this when she was looking for her possessions at the end of "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix", and found her shoes dangling from the ceiling.

Answer: Minerva McGonagall

Minerva McGonagall was the professor of transfiguration, and head of Gryffindor House. She was also a registered animagus - a wizard or witch who can at will transform into an animal, in her case a tabby cat. So you have deciphered that the words jumbled up by the Removocali spell are TRANSFIGURATE, CAT and MINERVA MCGONAGALL.

In the book "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" we first encounter the Dursley family, Muggles as they ever were. But then Vernon Dursley sees a cat reading a map. This is of course Minerva McGonagall in her cat appearance, but Vernon thinks it is just "a trick of the light". The first movie, however, shows Dumbledore turning to a cat and muttering "I should have known that you would be here, Professor McGonagall."

Answer: Poppy Pomfrey

A school for witchcraft and wizardry needs, of course, an infirmary, for many spells can inflict harm - on purpose or by accident. Madam Poppy Pomfrey is the head nurse of Hogwarts infirmary, and she nurses Harry and his friends quite often. In "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" Harry's arm was broken by a hexed Bludger, and Professor Lockhart accidentally removed the broken bones (instead of healing them). Poppy Pomfrey then brought Harry a glass of Skele-gro, a potion which would regrow the bones.

But it didn't taste well, as said Poppy Pomfrey: "What did you expect? PUMPKIN JUICE?"

Answer: George Weasley

George Weasley and his twin brother Fred are in their third year when their brother Ron, together with Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, starts his education at Hogwarts. Fred and George are notorious pranksters, and they long to open a joke shop. When Harry wins the Triwizard Tournament in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire", he donates them his prize, and that serves as the starting capital for their shop Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.

In the final battle for Hogwarts, Fred is killed in an explosion. George lives on, marries Angelina Johnson and has two children with her.

Answer: Severus Snape

Severus Snape has now had his vowels restored. He's still wondering if any POTION would counteract the effects of the Removocali spell - after all Severus was Professor of Potions for five years. Or should the counteraction be part of a course on DEFENSE AGAINST THE DARK ARTS, the position for which Snape applied for five consecutive years? In "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" Severus Snape was appointed as teacher of the Defense Against the Dark Arts, and his position as teacher in potions was filled by Professor Horace Slughorn. Harry Potter has always been at loggerhead with Snape.

Ever since Snape humiliated Potter in his first Potion class (by asking questions he knew Potter could not answer), Potter felt this way. And on several occasions Potter suspected Snape of working for Voldemort's Deatheaters. Only at the end of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", Harry Potter grasped the fact that Snape was all the time working as a double-agent, spying on Hogwarts for Voldemort and spying on Voldemort for Dumbledore.
