Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Boris & Natasha
Answer: Rocky & His Friends
Boris and Natasha were the famous villains for heroes Rocky and Bullwinkle. They were created by Jay Ward in 1959, and were on TV in the show "Rocky & His Friends" through 1964 with originals. There have been numerous TV shows, movies and other popular culture iterations of the characters in the decades since that first run.
2. Angelica Pickles
Answer: Rugrats
Voiced by Cheryl Chase, the character first appeared in the "Rugrats" pilot episode in 1991. She was in nearly every episode of the show, several movies and the spin-off series "All Grown Up!"
She was the older cousin of Tommy, the main character in the franchise.
3. Shaggy Rogers
Answer: Scooby Doo, Where Are You?
Norville "Shaggy" Rogers is the owner and best friend to Scooby Doo, one of the most famous cartoon dogs ever known. The first of more than a dozen animated series was called "Scooby Doo, Where Are You?" That was followed up with several animated movies, a few live action movies, video games, comic books and many other versions of the characters. They first hit the airwaves in 1969.
4. Sergeant Deux-Deux
Answer: The Pink Panther
Created for the opening credits of a live-action movie starring Peter Sellers, the animated Pink Panther first appeared in the short "The Pink Phink" which went on to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Short at the 1964 award show. In 1969, by popular demand, the animated panther got his own TV show.
Sergeant Deux-Deux debuted in the original "The Pink Panther" cartoon that originally ran on television from 1968-71. He was voiced by Pat Harrington, Jr.
5. Pokey
Answer: Gumby
Pokey was the clay horse that often went with Gumby on his adventures. They were created by Art Clokey while he was in film school at the University of Southern California. By 1953 the "Gumby" show was on TV, where it stayed until 1969. There have been multiple revivals over the years.
6. Sylvester the cat
Answer: Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons
Tweety Bird appeared in "A Tale of Two Kitties" in 1942. Sylvester, his well-known counterpart that made them both famous, didn't show up in the same cartoon as Tweety for another five years. By the time Sylvester paired up with Tweety in 1947, they won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short for "Tweety Pie".
It was the first of hundreds of times the cat and bird would spar on the big and small screens.
7. Choo-Choo
Answer: Top Cat
Choo-Choo, or Chooch as he was referred to by the titular Top Cat on the series, was a pink cat who often wore a turtleneck on the series. The show ran from 1961-62 for 30 episodes. It was popular in syndication, though, and saw several revivals over the years.
8. Sandy Cheeks
Answer: SpongeBob SquarePants
A squirrel who lives in the underwater town of Bikini Bottom, she is a close friend of SpongeBob SquarePants.
She first appeared in a 1999 episode of the show called "Tea at the Treedome".
Because she needs air, and not water to breathe, she is most often depicted as wearing a deep-sea diving suit with an air tank.
9. Yogi Bear
Answer: The Huckleberry Hound Show
This might be the trickiest one in the quiz. Yogi Bear and Booboo first appeared in "The Huckleberry Hound Show" in 1960, before jumping into their own show the following year. In 2010 a live-action movie was made. There were also several other versions of the cartoon where Yogi attempted to prove he was smarter than the average bear.
10. Tigger
Answer: Welcome to Pooh Corner
Tigger was a tiger in the Hundred Acre Woods where Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends lived. Will Ryan provided the voice for Tigger and Owl. The series title was based on the second Pooh book, which was also the first appearance of Tigger in the books. The books were written by A.A. Milne.
