Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This game is my brother's favorite. In which classic game of colorful money does the winner have to avoid going bankrupt?

Answer: Monopoly

In Monopoly each player is given a certain amount of colorful money. However, watch out! As you move around the board, some spaces will require a payment. . If you cross someone else's territory you pay them rent. If you go bankrupt you lose. The last player standing wins.

Monopoly has been remade into many editions themed around movies, animals, and adventures. My brother's favorite version is the Muppets. I love the Disney Villian version.
2. The classic version of this game leaves me a little scrambled, but my brother's dictionary brain has a field day with it. Which game has tiles of letters that build a crossword?

Answer: Scrabble

In Scrabble, tiles of letters are used to build on other players' words. The result is a crossword puzzle. Harder letters like Q, X, and Z are worth a lot of points if you happen to get them. The game ends when one person has no tiles left (and there are no more in the pool to draw from) and the winner is the person with the most points.

Things get pretty intense when my brother and I get down to the last spaces. He likes to challenge many of my words with a dictionary and use big words himself. I like making three or four letter words, but if I place them right, I can get a lot of points.
3. We play this one with friends, but hopefully my brother can draw something I can guess! In which game does the player have to guess what is drawn by their partner?

Answer: Pictionary

In Pictionary, players have to form teams. As the teams move their pieces around the board, they have to guess what their teammate draws. The drawer has to finish their drawing and get an answer before the timer runs out. When there is an "All play", both teams get to guess. The first team that finishes around the board wins.

I'm a very talented drawer, but guessing my brother's drawings can be a challenge. We have lots of laughs, though!
4. When it comes to skills, my brother and I both have a chance to shine in this challenge. Which game has the four categories Creative Cat, Data Head, Word Worm, and Star Performer?

Answer: Cranium

Cranium is a team game, where each turn involves a different activity as teams race around the board. The colors on the board tell which activity must be picked from the cards. When the team lands on a purple square, they can choose any category they want.

Creative Cat involves drawing or making something from the play dough. Data head involves data and facts. Word Worm involves words or spelling. Star Performer involves acting out or singing to get the team to guess the person, character or song.

I'm a good Creative Cat or Star Performer. My brother is good at Data Head or Word Worm because he is great with spelling and trivia.
5. Sometimes my brother and I play this game at the restaurant. Which game has red and black pieces that jump and sometimes uses the phrase "King me"?

Answer: Checkers

Checker games can be different colors, but always have two different colors. The most common is red and black. A player wins by capturing all the other player's pieces. When a checker makes it to the other side of the board, they get crowned with a second checker. A common saying players usually say is "King Me".

I tend to get really excited when I outsmart my brother at this game.
6. Check mate! This game is too hard for me, but my brother likes it. Which game uses pieces that include a queen, a knight, and a bishop?

Answer: Chess

In chess, each player has one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The winner has to capture the other player's king, resulting in a "check mate". Each piece has different abilities and moves. Some can only move in certain ways or certain squares, which can make the game hard.

This game can be very complicated, but many people enjoy it. My brother enjoys playing it with his brainy college friends. I get confused, so it's not a good game for me.
7. My brother got me this game for my birthday, but he knew more than me. Which trivia game is centered around brands, restaurants, businesses, and websites?

Answer: The Logo Board Game

In this game you get to move around the circular board of purple, yellow, green, and red spaces if you can answer the questions about logos. Logos, or pictures, represent different businesses, places or things. Some of the questions include places or things like Starbucks, NASCAR, Levi's, and even cereal like Lucky Charms.

This was a tough game even for my brother.
8. In which of these games does a player match their card with the best word other players have?

Answer: Apples to Apples

This game is good for groups or parties. Each player gets seven cards with nouns (words that are people, places, or things). People take turns being the judge, who selects a green card with an adjective (a word like "scary", "funny", "exciting") the rest of the players get to match. The judge picks the word he or she thinks describes their words the best and hands the green card to the person who had the word they liked. The player with the most green cards wins.

Many times this game depends on the judge's personality. My brother is very specific with a dictionary, so he chooses words that fit the dictionary description best. I have more fun with words that are funny, so I pick the word combination that makes me laugh.
9. It's a race against the clock! Which of these games involves rolling an alphabetical die and making a list before the timer goes off?

Answer: Scattergories

Scattergories has a special die that has different letters of the alphabet on it. A list is also chosen that has twelve different categories. When the timer starts, players have to come up with the most words based on the letter and the list they have. The player with the most words wins!

My brother and I can get very competitive with this one. He knows a lot of words, but I am the faster writer.
10. This game is my favorite! Which board game contains suspects with colorful names, who have committed a crime with a candlestick, revolver, rope, dagger, or pipe?

Answer: Clue (Cluedo)

To win this game, you have to figure out who committed the murder of the game's victim. Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs. Peacock, Mr. Green,
Colonel Mustard, and Mrs. White are all suspicious suspects with colored pieces that match their names.

My brother likes being the Professor, while I like being Miss Scarlett.
